A warrior with everything to prove
Tristan Knight has served the Admiral of England since he was a teenager. As a knight he has pledged his life to protect the Masters’ Admiralty, and when he’s assigned to escort an archaeologist on a research trip he knows the menial task is punishment for the failure of his last mission.
A woman in a gilded cage
Sophia Starabba is a brilliant scholar and accomplished law enforcement officer, working for Italy’s cultural heritage protection department. But none of that matters to her family or the other members of the territory of Rome. To them she’s the “Principessa”- daughter of the Admiral.
The man who holds the key
James Rathmann lives for mysteries. In another life he would have been a detective, but a love for digging in the dirt made him an archaeologist. Now one of the world’s leading experts on coins, and curator at the British Museum, he’s been called to Rome to examine a recent discovery.
An old enemy back from the dead
Among the coins they find something alarming—a message from a villain everyone had assumed was long dead. Tristan leads them on the trail to identify and protect the next potential target and possibly discover the identity of the Domino, a killer and anarchist who plagued the Masters’ Admiralty in the past.
But the Domino isn’t dead, and together James, Sophia and Tristan will fight to stay alive and one step ahead of a killer who will do anything to destroy the Masters’ Admiralty.
Great start to this spinoff series!!!
**Received ARC for a fair and honest review**
Treachery's Devotion is the first book in the Masters' Admiralty series. The book ties into Beloved Sacrifice, book 9 in the Trinity Masters series-- where you meet Tristan Knight. This book can be read as a standalone.
Tristan Knight/Arthur Billings is a knight in the British Territory, when he finds out he has to escort a coin expert to Rome he thinks he is being punished for his hand in helping Wes (Beloved Sacrifice) and he's not too happy. James Rathmann is excited he was get to use his expertise to help with some case in Rome. James is an Ex Pro Rugby player that was severely injured while playing for the All Blacks Rugby team, since he could no longer play, he found an interest in archeology and specifically Numismatics. When they get to Rome they are picked up by Sofia Sarabba/Principessa who is the Carabinieri they will be working with. Sofia is essentially a police officer that specializes in art and artifacts. When Tristan and James get to Rome and are escorted to the crime scene they realize this is a lot bigger than they were led to believe. And from there things will get really crazy... gotta save the good stuff for you to read!!
Wow, this book was chock full of craziness... it was a veritable rollercoaster ride that when it finishes you exit and feel like what the heck just happened. This book not only sets up the series well but also gives you romance, drama, suspense, and a HEA. I had a hard time putting this book down, there was so much going on I just couldn't find a place where I could leave off. I really enjoyed the characters, the sub-characters, the story line. If I had to come up with a complaint, it was I really wished we got a little bit more of this trinity's story.
The ending also doesn't give you closure which is hard to accept. You go through all the angst and craziness but it's not over. At least it doesn't feel like it to me. I'm sure it will probably carry over into the next book but that doesn't help now. That's just a me thing, I like to feel some sort of closure. The book was very well written. And I can't wait for the next book in the series!!! Hope this helps!! Happy Reading!!!
