Treasure Island

This book is available for download with iBooks on your Mac or iOS device, and with iTunes on your computer. Books can be read with iBooks on your Mac or iOS device.

Description

Treasure Island is an adventure novel, a thrilling tale of "buccaneers and buried gold". Traditionally considered a coming of age story, it is an adventure tale of superb atmosphere, character and action, and also a wry commentary on the ambiguity of morality—as seen in Long John Silver—unusual for children's literature then and now.

From Publishers Weekly

Oct 05, 2009 – Stevenson’s prototypical swashbuckling story receives a traditional treatment in this unabridged, oversize version. Lawrence evokes the essence of classic adventure stories with his vinyl-cut illustrations, as thick black shapes are tempered by muted tones of blue, gold and green. The grimacing faces of pirates are appropriately blemished and begrimed, elegant vessels are seen moored under a starry sky and the island’s wild intrigue is captured in subtle, grainy glimpses. As they follow Jim Hawkins to sea, readers will feel they’ve discovered a true relic with this edition. Ages 9–14.

Customer Reviews

WOW!

This book is a bit hard to read for younger children, but wow, by the end end i can see why it's a classic. Not your typical pirate thriller, but full of swashbuckling mutinous fun. Makes you want to be a pirate!!! Great for any Pirates of the Caribbean Fan (like ME!) <3

A wonderful read

This book is by no means a small feat. Unless you're learned of ships and their inner workings it would probably be best to keep a dictionary close by. However, lengthy and in depth it may be, it starts quickly and never fails to keep attention, something that more modern books could learn a thing or two from. Everything in this book well crafted and would definitely be worth anyone's time to read.

Lots of fun

Read it with my 10 year old son and he says "well I thought the island was really cool. The descriptions were great. I liked the way how the narrative was it felt like I was there and like Jim and Silver were actually talking to us."
