Tyrant (Scars of the Wraiths, Book 2)

Book 2, Scars of the Wraiths - Scars of the Wraiths, Book 2

This book can be downloaded and read in iBooks on your Mac or iOS device.

Description

The Scars are back. "Tyrant" is the second book in the 'Scars of the Wraith' series from the New York Times Best Selling Author Nashoda Rose.

“I don’t do nice. Period.” -Kilter (nickname: Off-Kilter)

Kilter is an a*****e. He's rude and crass with little hope of finding salvation after being betrayed and tortured by his brother more than a hundred years ago. Reckless and stubborn he has alienated everyone—just the way he likes it. Until the day he meets Rayne and emotions he buried long ago reawaken.

“I was nothing but a science experiment.” -Rayne Thurston

Rayne has been locked away and used for research ever since she was a child. The abuse caused her to withdraw into a tomb of numbness where she’s found a safe place to hide. But her safe place isn’t safe at all, it’s slowly killing her.
When Kilter rescues her and she is unexpectedly drawn to his raw honesty, Rayne must decide whether to trust him and fight for what she can’t see or drown into the depths of darkness.

For some Scars, it’s the story of healing and redemption, for others it’s the beginning of a tortured existence.
Which will it be for Kilter and Rayne?

A band of fierce warriors walk in the shadows of the human world with capabilities derived from the senses: Trackers, Sounders, Healers, Tasters, Visionaries and the rare Reflectors. They are known as the ‘Scars.

Frustratingly Good

I've waited for this book & I'm sad to say I'm disappointed. 😕

There were so many POV changes & snippets of other crap going on that Kilter & Rayne's story plays second fiddle. It isn't until more than halfway through the book that things focus more on them & it gets really good.

I wanted the book to be more focused on Kilter & Rayne..... I skipped through Damien's pov, I didn't sign up to read about him & the other POV's, other than Delara's & Waleron. It needed to be more focused on the main couple, I loved them together & wanted to see more from them.

5 Stars!!

WOW!!! This book was packed full of so much going on and I loved it!! I did NOT want it to end!!
Tyrant is the second book in the Scars of the Wraiths series. Don't let the glossary of terms scare you away because I had no problems keeping up. If you love a good PNR series you shouldn't delay starting this one! You must read the first book Stygian before you read this one even though it's about a different couple the books are connected. They don't leave you hanging on a cliff but leave you wanting more.

We met Kilter and Rayne in the last book. This one starts off with Kilter going back to the compound and rescuing Rayne from her abusive husband.

Kilter is a loner. He's arrogant and tells you how it is. He doesn't trust anyone. None of the scars want to be around him because he's such an a**hole. He's been burned before and he feels his race let him down. He can't get over it and he listens to no one. He's been beating himself up for weeks after he rescued Ryker and left Rayne at the compound. When he ignores the other scars and goes all cowboy and finally gets Rayne free and back to his home he doesn't know how to help the broken woman he's rescued.

Rayne lost her parents when she was younger. Her parents best friend takes over her care. Then when she turned 18 they get married. She's been at her husbands compound for years. Rayne is his puppet. Doing whatever he tells her to do or she will be punished. The only thing that she's been able to control is what food she's put in her body. She doesn't eat anything hardly at all and his slowly fading away. If she's too weak then her husband can't make her use her abilities. If she's too weak he can't run tests on her. Kilter doesn't know how to help her. The other scars are ready to step in and get her the help she needs before she dies. Kilter isn't happy about this.
I loved Kilter. He's the type of book boyfriend I love when I'm reading. He was so protective of Rayne that he went up against everyone to keep them from taking her to a clinic to get her help with her eating disorder. He knew she needed help but he didn't want her locked up in another facility.
I loved Rayne. She had been through so much all her life. She didn't have anyone in her corner until Kilter came into her life but she was still scared to trust him. She knew she needed help but was also scared to let anyone help her.
What happens to Kilter when he goes up against his fellow scars and leader? Will Rayne get the help she's needed to heal from all the abuse she's had in her life? What is the secret Rayne is hiding? Who is the woman from the compound that is still after her? You will be asking these questions and more.

We get multiple POVs in Tyrant. So even though this is Kilter and Raynes story there is plenty going in with secondary characters in this book. This one had me on the edge of my seat at times, fanning myself and also had me reaching for a tissue a time or two! I feel Nashoda Rose is building us up with a series that is going to be so good! There are endless possibilities for more books! I can not wait!! I highly recommend all PNR lovers to start this series!

Thank you so much Nashoda for giving me the opportunity to read and review your new book! I loved it!!
Waleron and Delara's story is next! I will be over here waiting very impatiently for it to be released:))

Kilter has to be my favorite!!!

Absolutely LOVED Kilter's story. Although this is the second time I've read it. (Please note that this story has been published before, as Step (Senses Series), but it has been rewritten and is even better this time around. And please, you must read Stygian before reading Tyrant or you will be lost!!!

Kilter!!! What can I say except that there is just so much there!!! He's growly and closed-off, says what he means and means what he says, and he could care less what anyone thinks about that until Rayne. He has been through so much in the many years he's been alive, thinking his clan had broken his trust. But when he rescues Rayne he knows he needs help, without it she may die.

Rayne. Wow, there are so many things about her that will shock the reader. Although in the beginning her character may seem weak and broken we soon see that there is a core strength about her that should have been completely broken. I absolutely loved watching her come back.

One of the best things about this series is that, while each book focuses on specific couples, we get to meet so many diverse characters. Can't wait until the next book!!!! This will be Belara and Waleron's story. SO MUCH story there!!!!
