Not well organized
I own this and The Ultimate X Guide for several of the other Hawaiian islands since I live in Hawaii and island hop a lot. This and its brethren all have the same feel: someone forgot their ADHD medication. It's an encyclopedic collection of paragraphs giving flowery descriptions of various places, loosely grouped together by their location. There isn't a lot of help or logic or linkage between entries that would help one sit down and develop The Plan for the day. (In fact, I don't even like using the book for the island I live on -- it's confusing.) Lonely Planet books work a lot better.
Left me wanting
I bought this book before my wife and I took a trip to Kauai, and after a friend had told us about it. We did find a lot of useful information that helped and the hike descriptions and hike maps were most helpful. We have an inflatable kayak and snorkel gear that we brought along and found that this book did not cover a great deal of offshore snorkel spots. We purchased a map once on the island that we were able to use for that. For anyone looking to rent equipment and go on a tour this would probably be pretty good for that as we saw a lot of the places named in the book so it would offer some helpful guidance there. The maps in the book were helpful I just wish they had more detail.
The dining guide in the book was awesome, a lot of places listed and pretty descriptive. Same thing goes for the lodging guide in the book, though we ended up at our friends timeshare. We also found the activities section helpful in selecting the zip line tour we did, which we booked through Princville Ranch Adventures. We chose the Zip & Dip tour described in the book and were glad we did.
Overall the ibook was worth the price and we'll get some more use out of the next time we visit, I'm sure.
