BONUS: This edition includes an excerpt from Karin Slaughter's Unseen.

In this suspense masterpiece, Karin Slaughter weaves together the powerful human stories of three unforgettable characters from her New York Times bestselling novels Faithless and Fractured, who collide here for the first time in an electrifying race against unspeakable human evil.

When a tortured young woman enters the trauma center of an Atlanta hospital, Dr. Sara Linton is thrust into a desperate police investigation with Special Agent Will Trent and his partner, Faith Mitchell. Though guarding their own wounds and their own secrets, Sara, Will, and Faith find that they are all that stand between a madman and his next victim.

Publishers Weekly Review

Jun 01, 2009 – Bestseller Slaughter brings together characters from her two series for the first time with electrifying results. Dr. Sara Linton, who lost her husband in 2007’s Beyond Reach, has left rural Grant County for a new life in an underfunded Atlanta hospital. Georgia Bureau of Investigation agents Faith Mitchell and Will Trent, last seen in 2008’s Fractured, happen to be in the hospital’s ER when a woman known only as “Anna” arrives. Anna was hit by a car after escaping from an unknown captor, whose underground torture chamber Will soon uncovers near the accident site, along with the body of a second woman he believes was held in the same bunker. When another woman is snatched, Faith and Will realize they’re chasing a sadistic serial killer. As the GBI agents try to connect the victims, Sara becomes more involved in the investigation, even as it dredges up painful memories from her past. Slaughter ups the emotional ante with every twist and turn in this disturbing thriller.

Great page turner

Karin Slaughter is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors! This book is. Quick read. Some of the details are a bit disturbing, but told in a way that makes you want to find out who did it.

An Okay Read

Overall well plotted with enough suspense to hold my interest.

As with all the Trent series, it is not believable that someone as severely dyslexic as Trent would have been hired as a detective. Barely able to read or follow simple directions such as "Go left" or "Go right," Trent cannot perform his duties independently. No matter how intelligent he is, he would be a liability to his partner and to himself. Perhaps there would be a role in law enforcement for someone like Trent, just not as a detective.

In this book we learn that Trent's partner, Faith Mitchell is not only pregnant, but also suffers from Type 2 diabetes. I have to question whether a person with her chronic disease would be certified for active duty such as detective. It seemed a needless complication that Slaughter chose to introduce this into the plot.

Also, Slaughter spends too much time on the personal problems of two of her lead characters. This is a mystery/detective novel, not a romance.

That said, the twists and turns of the story line kept me reading and I look forward to Slaughter's next book.

Strong character dvlpmnt

From a review in Costco magazine, I learned the author Karin Slaughter grew up in the suburban area where I went to High School. So that was my hook and I am glad for it. I thoroughly enjoyed the engaging full character development and the many back details supporting the plot line. However the wrap up solution to the plot left me rather flat and unbelieving. Guess that is a bad UN.
