“Touching and complex…Tucker unerringly hits all the high notes of romance—the spark, the emotional depth, the mental and physical struggles—while creating a couple who seem perfectly attuned even when they are in conflict.” —Publishers Weekly (starred review)
Twenty-four-year-old truck stop waitress and single mother Catherine Wright has simple goals: to give her five-year-old daughter a happy life and to never again be the talk of the town in Balsam, Pennsylvania (population three thousand outside of tourist season).
And then one foggy night, on a lonely road back from another failed date, Catherine saves a man’s life. It isn’t until after the police have arrived that Catherine realizes exactly who it is she has rescued: Brett Madden, hockey icon and media darling.
Catherine has already had her fifteen minutes of fame and the last thing she wants is to have her past dragged back into the spotlight, only this time on a national stage. So she hides her identity. It works. For a time.
But when she finds the man she saved standing on her doorstep, desperate to thank her, all that changes. There’s an immediate connection, and it’s more electric than the bond of two people who endured a traumatic event. It’s something neither of them expected. Something that Catherine isn’t sure she can handle; something she is afraid to trust.
Because how long can an extraordinary man like Brett be interested in an ordinary woman like Catherine...before the spark fades?
Sweet Romance for the Win!
I really really loved Until it Fades. I needed a little sweet romance in my life and K.A. Tucker delivered. Brett Madden is my new favorite hockey player, that's for sure. I was completely sucked in from the beginning and just had to stay up all night to finish.
Engaging and emotional read
***4 ‘Things That Make Me Happy’ Stars***
Until It Fades is my first foray into the mind of K.A. Tucker (though I have a few of her books sitting in my TBR list) and didn’t know what to expect going in. I was prepared for drama, the description sets the tone perfectly, but I didn’t expect the roller coaster reactions ~ both good and bad ~ not only to the drama, but the very eclectic cast of characters that brought this story to life. It was sweet, smexy, funny and frustrasting (sometimes all at once) and I got caught up in Cath and Brett’s journey as they find that single moment can change the course of your life forever.
Cath’s past has never stopped haunting her and though she lives with the consequences of the choices she made when she was young and dumb, she is determined to ensure that her daughter’s present and future are bright and filled with love. I really liked Cath, even when I wanted to reach out and shake some sense into her. She’s a fighter and would do anything for her daughter, but when her stubborn pride kicks in, it tends to get in the way and has her making certain decisions that end up backfiring on her. Thankfully, with much prodding and manipulation from those who tend to have her best interests at heart (even if they are times a little skewed), she does end up seeing that her may not be the best way and will own up to it without out too much fuss.
Brett is the golden boy of hockey and the you want to hate because on paper he has it all -Looks, talent and fame - And yet you can’t because at his core he is a good, hard working man doing what he loves. It really was hard to not fall in love with Brett, because he is the epitome of a good man with his feet firmly planted on the ground, or on ice with ice skates, and appreciates all that he’s been given. He does have a bit of an alpha streak and is quite determined, and even a little sneaky at times, but it just makes you want more of him.
The journey that Brett and Cath took to get to their HEA was bumpy, but given Cath’s past and Brett’s current situation, it wasn’t surprising the hurdles that they both had to get over to start to see the silver lining to the horrific situation that brought them into each others orbits. There was insta-attraction, once they meet physically, but I enjoyed the slow but steady, and a little frustrating, was their relationship evolved, with a little help from outside sources. It was all kinds of sweet, smexy and yet quite realistic which made their journey relatable and relevant in this day and age.
As I said in the beginning this is my first book by K.A. Tucker and I really enjoyed it. I loved how, even in the crazy that was going on, she kept things simple. The issues that are brought up throughout the book are handled realistically and make you question what your reaction would be if faced with them. I’m a huge fan of well written secondary characters and there are a plethora of them in this book and my, at times extreme, reactions to them prove that the author crafted some quite unique characters to give the story depth. Brenna was adorably precocious, I loved Lou and I have a little crush on Richard, but all of the characters will keep you on your toes. This book will bring out quite a few, and varied emotional reactions, but the journey is definitely worth it.

A Beautiful Romance

Until if Fades is a heavy on the sweet, and light on the drama. It's a wonderful story about overcoming your past, really learning who your family is, making the best out of what you have, and love.
Catherine our heroine doesn't understand her over bearing mother, because of an issue that happened when Cat was a teen, their family is not well liked in their sleepy little east coast town. The beginning of the book we flip back and forth via past and present. I really enjoyed the back story, and I was able to feel what Cat was feeling when it came to her parents. When we get to the present chapters we learn Cat is a single mother that is making it the best she can. She is on her own and working as hard as she can to take care of her and her daughter Brenna.
After a horrendous blind date Catherine is witness to a horrible accident. This is where we meet Brett our hero. He is a hockey player with a heart of gold. Handsome, sweet and accepting. Catherine saves our hero from his certain death. They are then thrust together in the spotlight, but does Catherine really want all this attention?
I loved Catherine and Breena's relationship. Breena was precocious and charming. I loved that the romance between Brett and Catherine was slow. They got to fall in love gradually, and the payoff was wonderful. It was refreshing to read about a single mother, struggling to make ends meet. It's a departure from most heroines in romance novels.
