Iatrogenic injury of the vertebral arteries is of clinical interest to neurologists, radiologists, chiropractors, osteopaths and vascular specialists. This treatise begins with an in-depth discussion of the anatomy and physiology of the vertebral artery and then leads into a discussion of the vascular supply to the head and spinal cord. The introductory section is followed by a review of the common pathologies that affect the vertebral artery; including fibromuscular dysplasia, aneurysms, and vertebral artery dissection. Case presentations with annotated voice-over detailed review of MR, CT, MR angiography exemplars are provided as well as a discussion of Wallenberg’s and other syndromes that may arise after vertebral artery occlusion. This eBook next reviews clinical issues such as the impact of delayed diagnosis, frequency of iatrogenic injury, as well as the association of manipulation with vertebral artery injuries. Informed consent and the implications for risk disclosure are found at the end of this work.
