My name is Emma Sawyer.
I met Charlie and Wyatt on the same sultry, summer day. The moment happened out of nowhere, all fast and quick and a little strange. Or maybe that was just Wyatt's personality.
It was Charlie that brought us together. Little Charlie with those ridiculous ears. I found the dog, waiting in a pool of his own blood. Waiting for someone. Waiting for me.
Now Wyatt, he wasn't waiting for anyone. At least that's what he said, except I saw something different in the broken guy all alone out in the woods. I knew he needed me before he knew it himself.
Wyatt with his hidden dimples. Wyatt with his warnings to stay away. He was a hard lump of coal, ready to burn everything around him. The more he burned, the more it pulled me into the pain I saw etched on his troubled face.
I wanted to help Wyatt. I wanted to save him like he had saved all the Charlies in the world. He told me not to fall for him, but I did anyway. I fell hard and fast and deeply in love with Wyatt Caulfield.
But that was before I knew his secret.
Author Note: Waiting for Wyatt is the love story of Wyatt Caulfield and Emma Sawyer, which also features rescue animals. It's a 112,000 word standalone novel. Contemporary Romance / Coming of Age / New Adult & College.
"Oh my gosh, you guys!! Wyatt completely stole my heart!!! This was exactly the kind of book I love reading -- it was incredibly well written, and loaded with feels, intrigue, and a captivating romance. I already know this will be one of my Top Favorites of 2016. It's a top recommendation!" - Aestas Book Blog
"We adored this authors writing style and the sweet characters who melted our hearts. And whilst the romance was beautiful and gripping, it wasn't the only aspect of this story which stole our hearts. What completely and utterly had our hearts practically beating out of our chests -- the background stories of the abandoned and abused dogs, which related so much to Wyatt and Emma's love story." - Totally Booked
"I absolutely LOVED The Mason List and knew when Waiting for Wyatt came out that I would want to get my hands on it right away. This book elicited such emotions and heartache while still being amazingly beautiful. S.D. Hendrickson will always have a place on my author to read list." - Shh Mom's Reading
Rescue animals, intimacy, twins, guilt, and forgiveness all wrapped into one splendid read.
Waiting for Wyatt is composed of four parts. The story is told from Emma and Wyatt's POV. It's a standalone novel.
Part 1 is told from Emma's POV. This part is about Emma meeting Wyatt out at a secluded piece of property where animals are rescued and taken care of. Emma takes Charlie to this place and is smitten with the animals and the caregiver. Emma strolled into Wyatt's world uninvited and unannounced causing discomfort in his carefully organized world. SD Hendrickson used the most amazing descriptive words to illustrate the setting and characters. The rescue location and the animals added a touch of humanity to the story. SD pulled me in with her captivating words. The rescue dogs captured my heart but Wyatt burned my soul. Emma might be brave enough to handle Wyatt's secret, but I'm not so sure I'm ready for what he is hiding.
Part 2 is Wyatt's turn to speak about himself and disclose his secret. Wyatt has some self reflecting to do.
Part 3 is back to Emma's perspective. This part of the story builds upon the intimacy between Wyatt and Emma. Wyatt continues to battle with his guilt to enjoy pleasurable moments with Emma. Wyatt does not feel worthy of a life of luxuries. With devastating loss Wyatt came out a better person in the end.
Part 4 is the epilogue.
While some people might be disappointed that this story does not include graphic sex scenes I prefer the intimate moments. For me the stuff before sex is more appealing and more sensual. The act itself does not always have to be described in detail to understand the connection and passion. Just knowing they are together as one is enough to establish the bond. Besides its all that intimacy that makes the sexual experience more intense. The words chosen to describe the loving touches is stimulating enough. I feel the desire between the two characters just from the simple acts of kindness. SD did an amazing job writing a contemporary romance woven around the rescue animals. Then she took it one step farther and added Wyatt's tragic past.
Emma and Wyatt truly come to life stepping right off of the pages. You feel their pain as well as the joy in their lives.
Anyone who has ever rescued an animal or a human, will find this an engrossing read. Well developed characters who will tug at your heartstrings!
