When It's Real
This book can be downloaded and read in iBooks on your Mac or iOS device.
Under ordinary circumstances, Oakley Ford and Vaughn Bennett would never even cross paths.
There’s nothing ordinary about Oakley. This bad-boy pop star’s got Grammy awards, millions of fangirls and a reputation as a restless, too-charming troublemaker. But with his home life disintegrating, his music well suddenly running dry and the tabloids having a field day over his outrageous exploits, Oakley needs to show the world he’s settling down—and who better to help him than Vaughn, a part-time waitress trying to help her family get by? The very definition of ordinary.
Posing as his girlfriend, Vaughn will overhaul Oakley’s image from troublemaker to serious artist. In return for enough money to put her brothers through college, she can endure outlandish Hollywood parties and carefully orchestrated Twitter exchanges. She’ll fool the paparazzi and the groupies. She might even start fooling herself a little.
Because when ordinary rules no longer apply, there’s no telling what your heart will do…
Couldn't put it down!
I will warn those that were fans of the darker Royal’s series (Paper Princess etc.) that this book is nothing like it and for that I was happy. I loved The Royal’s series don’t get me wrong, but I love it when the author’s switch it up and give us something fresh and new. That is exactly what I got with When It’s Real! I truly enjoyed every chapter and I couldn’t put it down.
This book gave me a rock star romance, slow burn, frenemies to lovers, and bad boy rocker to girl next door romance all rolled into one! The character development throughout the story was fantastic and I really loved both Oakley and Vaughn. There is a lot that goes on between these two and the supporting cast. As a reader, I enjoyed the journey of witnessing their individual transformations as well as their transformation as a couple.
I don’t want to give anything away, so you will have to read this sweet, sexy, fun and engaging read!
Good Easy Read. I feel gypped with being no music attached. Otherwise worth a read!
Must read for YA fans
YA isn't generally my go to genre. Which is odd because they are always the ones that I end up loving the most. This was the absolute definition of a feel good young love story.
The whole storyline was really unique. Here you have Oakley, the son of mega movie stars. Pop star at a very young age essentially growing up in the spotlight. He has the world at his fingertips, and is surrounded by people 24/7. Yet he's lonely. He doesn't know who is in his life for the right reasons. I had a huge soft spot for him. There were times in the book when his inner jerk surfaced but it was never over the top.
Vaughn totally fit the bill for the girl next door. She's had some heartbreak in her past but it didn't stop her from doing what she needed to help her family. I think what I loved the most about her was her fears and insecurities. They were absolutely true to what a 17 year old girl would be struggling with. This is a time in a girls life where big life decisions are being made. So it was totally understandable as to what was going through her head.
The two together were such a fun dynamic. Vaughn wasn't easily dazzled by Oakley. She was constantly calling him on his bad behavior. Oakley really had to work hard to impress Vaughn, something he's not used to doing. There some childish back and forth behavior between these two, but certainly not in an obnoxious way. The age of the characters were 17 and 19 so it was fitting. There were also a lot of sweet moments between them as well. The two were showing each other what real friendship and love means.
I really can't get over how sweet this story was. It truly gives you the warm fuzzies. It's was a perfect easy read that put a smile on my face.
Erin Watt has proven yet again why I automatically one click everything they put out. 4 stars.
