Book 2, The McKinney Brothers - A McKinney Brothers Novel

This book can be downloaded and read in iBooks on your Mac or iOS device.

Description

For readers of Bella Andre, New York Times bestselling author Claudia Connor follows up her heartfelt debut, Worth the Fall, with a novel about Matt’s brother, Stephen. When a McKinney brother falls in love, powerful emotion and overwhelming desire are never far behind.

Two hearts locked away . . . Hannah Walker spends her days coaching children through injury and trauma, one therapeutic horseback ride at a time. She knows all too well how violence can change a child and leave scars that never heal. It’s easy for her to relate to the kids; what isn’t easy is the thought of facing her own harrowing past.

Millionaire playboy Stephen McKinney could use a little coaching himself. Five years ago he encountered his most horrible nightmare—and the nightmare won. No matter what he achieves, nothing can make up for that awful night . . . or so he believes.

Both desperate for a second chance . . . Stephen is used to getting what he wants. And he wants Hannah. So when she turns him down, he’s intrigued. What he doesn’t know is that her secrets will lead him to a place he never wanted to go again . . . to a side of himself he’s tried to forget . . . a side that would scare Hannah away from ever loving him. Now his only chance to win her trust is to bare his soul, risking everything he tried so hard to protect.

Emotional and moving!!

Hannah and Stephen, two individuals with a lot of heartache and pain who are trying to learn to cope and survive. Their love story of meeting and finding that they can heal each other and find true and lasting love.

Hannah was a sweet, strong women who had a horrific thing happen in her past that changed her life forever. She had her brothers by her side protecting her and helping her as best they could to help her heal. But she found something that helped her overcome her past as best she could and that was by helping others. I loved what she did and her passion for the children. They where children with special needs and she helped give them joy by teaching them to ride horses and take care of them.

My heart ached for Stephen. He was on the outside a hard, driven and cold man. But he also experienced a devastating loss. His fiance, the women he loved and was to marry in a weeks time was brutally murdered. And he was filled with such grief and rage that he for a time just went off the deep end. He had wonderful family that he cut himself off from for years. But as time passed he just maintained his billion dollar company and became detached from any feelings of any kind and his family.

But a chance encounter at a grocery store between Stephen and Hannah changes their lives forever. Their romance is a sweet, hot and heartbreaking thing to behold. I so enjoyed them getting to know one another and watching their feelings unfold and become so much more then just their hot attraction to each other (and it was hot too). Stephen, how he treated Hannah just was incredibly sweet and tugs at your heart.

This was a very emotional, angst filled, sweet, tender and hot romance. These two had sexual tension jumping off the pages and heart touching moment that will melt your heart too. I highly recommend this book.

-- -- My Thoughts -- --
Can one find really their perfect match in front of the beer coolers at the supermarket?
Hannah operates a hippotherapy center (equine therapy), mostly for children with various disabilities. Orphaned as a young child, raised by her four much older brothers, and having been a victim of a horrifically violent crime when she was fourteen which required an extensive hospital stay and physical therapy of her own, Hannah is able to relate to these children better than most. She's lived in fear and isolation, but deep inside, all she wants is to feel.
Stephen does not like complicated but when he sees the single tear sliding down Hannah's cheek as he stands unseeing before the beer coolers, something twists inside him. Protective urges surge to the forefront and a determination to make her his comes out of nowhere. But he suffers night terrors and has had to suppress a dark side after his fiancée was brutally murdered five years ago. Since then, he's distanced himself from his family, physically and emotionally and has focused his energies on work during the day and women at night, hoping to expend enough energy to fall into a dreamless sleep. Keep distant, don't form attachments, don't allow himself to feel; because if he feels one thing, he may end up feeling it all.
This is the second book in the MCKINNEY BROTHERS series, and although several of the characters were previously introduced, this book can stand on it's own just fine. I though Matt was perfect, but I'm beginning to think that mom and dad McKinney just raised their boys right because WOW... Stephen is just as wonderful. Both characters have such a horrific and dark, traumatic event in their past and they've both dealt with it in different ways, making them virtual opposite sides of one coin. They fit perfectly, each completing and complimenting the other. I enjoyed all the returning characters as well as the new (and am secretly hoping Ms. Connor decided to create a spin-off using Hannah's four bachelor brothers!). Character interaction and dialogue is realistic and believable. The plot is engrossing and flows so smooth, the pages just fly by. I did have an inkling to what the climactic event would be and was only minutely correct in my guess. The plot is deeply emotional yet well-balanced. Predictability overall was virtually non-existent. The conclusion was solid and extremely satisfying. This is one author who makes the editor's job easy-peasy. Perfectly written in every elemental criteria. I'd HIGHLY recommend this book and this series to anyone who's not read it yet. I've already one-clicked it before finishing reading it and WILL read the series again "just because." Loved it! Thank you, Ms Connor, for such a fantastic story!

Powerful, all-consuming, and devastatingly raw

Powerful, all-consuming, and devastatingly raw, this incredible journey will capture your heart and steal the very breath from your lungs while it gently shows you the value and worth of a person in spite of their past because the future holds hopes and dreams that no one should have to live without. This is undoubtedly one of the most touching and emotionally moving stories that I have read in a long time. I savored each and every gentle and meaningful interaction between the characters. This story not only pulled my heart from my chest from the very start, but it shattered it completely and then began a beautiful healing process that not only pieced it back together but put a hope and light inside it so bright that nothing can extinguish it.
Hannah is a woman thoroughly broken by her devastating past, and working every day to keep putting one foot in front of the other. Her job as a physical therapist breathes light and hope into her small life, and she is determined to put aside her fears to help others who are just as scarred as she is. She wants no pity, and gives none to her patients. Instead, she wraps them in her love and encouragement and allows them to immerse themselves in a time of freedom and fun. Nothing could take her away from the joy that she has found in bringing smiles to the faces of her young friends. A successful CEO, millionaire, and playboy, Stephen is seen as having it all and more. He knows what he wants and he never loses. What no one knows is that he holds onto his dark past so tightly that if it wasn’t for his family, he wouldn’t have anything in his life to brighten the path that his feet walk upon. He dreams of retribution and pain for the terrible loss of his fiancée. If he has his way, those involved would find a fate worse than death. What he doesn’t expect is to meet a woman who not only knocks him off his game, but completely turns his world upside down. Can he let his past go and take hold of the angelic treasure standing in front of him, or will Hannah run away fearing the unrepairable damage that he could do to her heart?
This story took me completely by surprise! I have heard nothing but good things about Worth the Fall, and I was curious how Worth the Risk would compare. Shocked by what I found within the pages of this book, I am still picking my jaw up from off the floor. The stunning characters hit me like a freight train with their overpowering light of hope and love. Even at their darkest hour, I couldn’t stop loving them. Stephen and Hannah were beyond perfect for each other, but they just needed to see beyond their own scars to the beauty and promise that was staring them in the face. They had to decide if what they wanted was worth the pain and vulnerability that it would bring. The best things in life are not easy because they require all of our courage and all of our love in order to work. What we have to decide is whether we want to sacrifice all of ourselves for something that will transforms us into what we have never dared to dream about.
What a rush and a natural high! My emotions were all over the place as I read this amazing story! Claudia Connor really knows how to grab onto your heart and make you feel like you have never felt before. I was completely drained and yet so absolutely content after I finished reading the last page. Nothing was left in question and no lose ends were left dangling. This incredible family that Connor is building one story at a time has claimed my heart, and I can’t wait to see whose story is next! This is one author that has forever secured a spot on my all-time favorite list.
