Publisher Description

Serena knows a few simple things. She will always be owned by a warlock. She will never have freedom. She will always do what her warlock wishes, regardless of how inane, frivolous, or cruel it is. And if she doesn’t follow the rules, she will be tarnished. Spelled to be bald, inked, and barren for the rest of her life—worth less than the shadow she casts.

Then her ownership is won by a barbarian from another country. With the uncertainty that comes from belonging to a new warlock, Serena questions if being tarnished is really worse than being owned by a barbarian, and tempts fate by breaking the rules. When he looks the other way instead of punishing her, she discovers a new world. The more she ventures into the forbidden, the more she learns of love and a freedom just out of reach. Serena longs for both. But in a society where women are only ever property, hoping for more could be deadly.

Wonderful! Captivating!

This is a great storage written incredibly well... I was totally caught up in it, felt drawn in to the life of it... great character development... I went with the emotional roller coaster right along side of them... this is a story I will reread again.

Wow!

So I’ve been rereading Pride and Prejudice for the past few weeks without motivation to read anything else, but I got this book for free on a deal, decided to give it a shot, AND WOW IT WAS SO ENJOYABLE! I read it all in one evening. The main character isn’t one of those girls who constantly makes dumb decisions making you cringe, and the writing really allowed me as a reader to understand and relate to her naivety, her fears, and her determination. The characters are all so lovely. I didn’t see a lot of the events in the book coming, which is pretty unusual for me and was so refreshing. It’s not Pride and Prejudice or anything (really though, what is?), but was DEFINITELY worth the read!! I’d recommend this to anyone who likes reading about magic-infused worlds, realistically strong women, and unexpected kindness.

Spell-binding!

From the moment I began reading, I was entranced. An enticing twist on the dystopian novel -a favorite genre of mine. Wow!
