“Romance novels don’t get much better than Mallery’s expert blend of emotional nuance, humor and superb storytelling.” —Booklist
The #1 New York Times bestselling author of the Fool’s Gold romances invites you to visit Happily Inc, a wedding destination founded on a fairy tale!
Sculptor Nick Mitchell grew up in a family of artists and learned from his volatile father that passion only leads to pain. As he waits on a new commission, he takes a day job as a humble carpenter at a theme wedding venue. The job has its perks—mainly the venue’s captivating owner, Pallas Saunders.
Pallas adores Weddings in a Box. But if she can’t turn the floundering business around, she’ll have no choice but to cave to her domineering mother and work at the family’s bank. Then when a desperate bride begs Pallas for something completely out of the box, her irresistible new hire inspires her. Nick knows she doesn’t belong behind a desk, and she knows in her heart that he’s right—where she really belongs is in his arms.
Don’t miss the next book in the Happily Inc. series, Second Chance Girl!
Happily Inc begins
The first book in Susan Mallery’s new Happily Inc series, You Say It First, picks right up where Fools Gold left off. After the big blowout with their father, Nick, Ronan, and Mathias Mitchell relocated to the small town in the California desert known for weddings. This give us a chance to see Nick get his own HEA; I’m sure the other two will soon follow. At the same time, it gives Mallery a whole new canvas to play with. Visitors to Fools Gold will find some similarities to their favorite town, while new visitors will fit right in. The new cast of characters are fun and interesting. Pallas, Nick’s girl, is a fun way to start. She and Nick push each other out of their comfort zone and together they are far more successful than they are apart. The whole town is built on the idea of weddings, so it is fun to see Mallery’s imagination at work as Pallas plans them. The alien wedding is so over the top, yet completely amazing. I really wish there were pictures included.
I always enjoy summer visits to Mallery’s towns and this is no exception. I can’t wait to see this series go forward. It has the makings of another Fools Gold.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this novel.
Book 1 of Happily Inc
3 1/2 STARS!
Weddings in a small town! It was definitely a slow start with Susan Mallery's kick-off to her new Happily Inc series. The town is quirky and the characters have potential but it kind of felt like we were fed too much info on many of them just to lay the groundwork for the series and it overshadowed the ability of the main characters to catch my attention. They were cute together, and by the end I was hoping for a happy ending, but they didn't grab me and reel me in like I wanted them to. If you're a fan of Mallery's small town life, you'll probably still enjoy the book, but it might not snare you as easily as some have in the past. I'm hoping for more connection and depth when I dig into book two!
Pallas Saunders had big dreams for her life, but it hasn't turned out anything like she imagined ... and she's not so sure that it's a bad thing! She's enjoying her newfound freedom running a themed wedding venue, but it's not taking off as fast as she had hoped. If she doesn't soon start to bring in some money, she may be caving to her demanding mother's wish for her to come work at the family's bank.
World-renowned artist Nick Mitchell has a big commission on the horizon, so he's not looking to start some big job right now, so he finds himself answering an ad for some carpentry work at Pallas's wedding venue. He ends up working on a project that he really enjoys and he can't help but indulge himself with Pallas's company as often as he can as well. He's not looking for a relationship, but some temporary companionship could be nice!

Take 3 brothers from the Fool’s Gold series and relocate them to a little town known as a wedding destination and watch the sparks fly!
Pallas Saunders runs Weddings in a Box, a wedding planning service that specializes in out of the box, outrageously fun weddings. She loves her work, her shop and even the town, and with her cadre of girlfriends Carol, Violet, Natalie, Silver, and Wynn. Fortunately for Pallas, they are always in her corner and bring support, laughs (lots of those) and fun. And Pallas needs that with a mother like Libby – a truly despicable character that even defied the attempts to redeem her by HER OWN Father! But, that’s another story (and character) who perhaps will find some moments to lessen the distaste when she enters the room. Personally, once Pallas got into her groove and the weddings started to roll, her true enjoyment of love and celebrating it (for others, never herself) was palpable. And, you have to love the interview style!
Nick Mitchell is a sculptor, with his own issues and struggles with his own family. His brothers Ronan and Mathias have already relocated to Happily Inc, and after a big blowout with their father, Nick decides to join them after hearing how much they enjoy the little town. Nick is waiting on a big commission that will take him to Dubai for a couple of years while the piece is created and installed, and he’s not one for just sitting around. Taking a job with Weddings in a Box as the carpenter while he waits seems logical and not stressful. Unlike his growing up or the big fight with his brothers that nearly tore them all apart where the bond between Ronan and Nick finally started to be repaired.
But neither Pallas nor Nick is particularly interested in commitment or relationships for themselves – although the scent of weddings and all of that love in the air did start to work its magic on them. But, with their own histories and bad luck with close relationships, their own caution added to the slow build into a fire of the ages with this romance. And, being as crazy-good at the weird, remarkable and everything shiny for her clients, Pallas has seen it all – but would Nick’s surprise for her be too much or just right?
A lovely story full of drama, feelings, history, friends laughs and heart, keeping the feel of the Fool’s Gold series that is so beloved but giving the characters, both new and familiar, a place to grow and thrive.
