From Darren Shan, the Master of Horror, comes the first book in the Zom-B series that will have you on the edge of your seat and questioning what it means to be a human or a monster.
When news reports start appearing of a zombie outbreak in Ireland, B's racist father thinks it's a joke-- but even if it isn't, he figures, it's ok to lose a few Irish.
B doesn't fully buy into Dad's racism, but figures it's easier to go along with it than to risk the fights and abuse that will surely follow sticking up for Muslims, blacks, or immigrants. And when dodging his fists doesn't work, B doesn't hesitate to take the piss out of kids at school with a few slaps or cruel remarks.
That is, until zombies attack the school. B is forced on a mad dash through the serpentine corridors of high school, making allegiances with anyone with enough gall to fight off their pursuers.

From Publishers Weekly

Oct 08, 2012 – Shan, author of the Cirque du Freak and Demonata series, enters the zombie genre in a thoroughly bloody fashion with this slow-burning horror piece, which opens a planned 12-book series. This slim volume starts off quietly, introducing readers to narrator B Smith, an English teen who seems headed for a bad end, a born troublemaker following the example of a physically abusive, racist, and thuggish father. Struggling with violent impulses, a desire for paternal approval, and a lowbrow group of friends, B makes one wrong choice after another, leading up to the moment of truth, when a devastating zombie outbreak turns everyday existence into a life-or-death struggle. With the body count rising rapidly and everybody fending for themselves, B s true colors finally show at least one of the late revelations should catch readers off guard setting the stage for the next entry. Character development is impressive for a relatively short book, and Shan executes the transition from normalcy to wholesale terror masterfully. It s a strong start, but there s a lot of story left to go. Ages 12 up.

Customer Reviews

I'm surprised so many of you idiots liked this book. Such a short and juvenile book. It's so incredibly underwhelming and has absolutely nothing to do with zombies. In fact there are only a zombie here or there, but basically has nothing to do with zombies, until the last quarter of the book, just some stupid kid going on and on about her getto life and racist father. Not only that but the main character is a pos. The only good part about this book is the prologue. What a waste of time!!!!

Best book series ever!!

My favorite series, like ever
I love the zoom- b books sooo much. I feel really stupid for not figuring out that B is a girl, especially when the babies call her mummy, but I do like the fact that she is a girl . If you've read the whole series ( up till the latest book) you would know that it would make no sense if B was a boy. So far none of B's friends in the first book are important except for vinyl. If you do not stomach violence very well this series might not be for you but the story line might drive you past that... I love the cliffhanger endings and if you are confused by the end of the book, book to pretty much sums up the first book in a chapter. I would recommend this book to any of my friends, pretty much anyone in the street too.

Fluffing amazing book!
