Course Description

This course studies sharks and how sharks are in more danger from people than we are from them. Children will organize facts about sharks to show their understanding of sharks habitat, life cycle, importance to the food chain. They will compose a opinion piece on If sharks are more in danger from people or is people are more in danger from sharks. This piece needs to state their opinion and have 3 supporting details and closing.
 
This course will incorporate the following Common Core Standards
2RIT1 Ask and answer such questions as who, what, where, when and why to demonstrate understanding of key details in a text.
2RIT2 Identify the main topic of a multi paragraph text as well as the focus of specific paragraphs within the text. 
2RIT6 Identify the main purpose of a text, including what the author wants to answer, explain or describe.
2RIT7 Explain how specific images (e.g., a diagram showing how a machine works) contribute to and clarify a text.
2RIT8 Describe how reasons support specific points the author makes in a text.
2W1 Write opinion pieces in which they introduce the topic or book they are  writing about, state an opinion, support reasons that support the opinion, use linking words (e.g.,because, and also) to connect option and reasons, and provide a concluding statement or section.
