Built to Run: The Science of the Iditarod Sled Dog

by Westlake Academy

This course material is only available in the iTunes U app on iPhone or iPad.

Course Description

Every year in March, mushers and sled dogs travel from Anchorage to Nome on a ten day journey called the Iditarod. For many, it is a life long dream. For the sled dogs, it is their life.

During this course, you will learn about the science of a sled dog. What makes them unique to endure the Iditarod Race? What are their needs along the trail? And how have they been adapted to run?

This course is being taught through a 9th grade biology class, but can be adapted for middle school life science as well.
