Constitutional Convention

by University of Oklahoma

This course material is only available in the iTunes U app on iPhone or iPad.

Course Description

In this six-part lecture series, historians Paul Gilje and Kevin Butterfield examine the Constitutional Convention that met in Philadelphia in the summer of 1787. Gilje and Butterfield pay close attention to the details of what the members of the Convention said and did, and they also explore bigger questions: Was the Constitution a proslavery document? Was the final document a fulfillment of the American Revolution, or a conservative reaction to it? Join Professors Gilje and Butterfield as they examine the fascinating origins of our nation’s Constitution.
