Course Description

Outline
Over the centuries great leaders such as Alexander the Great and Napoleon have overcome great odds and seen their armies prevail. In this learning journey you will discover key principles on how to prevail with your team over your opponents. You will consider the key skills of sports including foot- ball, volleyball, hockey, rugby and netball and develop those skills to a standard that will help you prevail over your opponents. Like all great leaders and soldiers you must be prepared to bring in PE kit and take part practically in the lesson as this learning journey is predominately practical. 

Prerequisite
You should have a keen interest in the team-based sports of football, hockey, rugby, volleyball and netball. This is a practi- cal course so you must be prepared bring your PE kit and take part in each lesson to the best of your ability. 

Progression
Successful completion of Space Invaders can be followed by one of Cool Runnings, Essa Explorers and Invaders and Conquerors at chilli two.

Assessment
The assessment of this course will be ongoing throughout the course. Students will be assessed by through observations from the course leader to assess the quality of their practical skills. They will also be assessed through question and answer sessions within sessions to assess their subject knowledge. Peer assessment tasks will also be engaged within lessons so pupils can assess themselves and others. At the end of the unit there will be a final assessment taken from the Edexcel GCSE practical criteria for the particular sport or activity you are covering. Using this criteria students will be given a final practical grade for the unit ranging from A-E (see week 16 posts for the assessment criteria). 


Each lesson is a Learning Challenge and will be mentioned throughout this course as LC and the corresponding number. Each Learning Challenge (LC) encompasses a variety of activities which may, from time to time require books, pens, paper, practicals, video evidence and not just your iOS device.
