Open Geometry 1st Semester

Course Description

This first semester Geometry course aims to give students a solid understanding of plane and coordinate geometry as well as an introduction to logic and reasoning. Beginning chapters focus on basic terms, constructions, and properties of simple figures.  Starting with an introduction to the basic building blocks of all geometric figures; the point, line and plane, students will learn to construct and classify lines, angles, and basic two dimensional shapes. 

In addition, students will explore the language of logic and use theorems, postulates, and definitions to construct direct and indirect geometric proofs. This semester introduces many formulas including simple area formulas for triangles and circles, the Pythagorean Theorem, and the distance formula. However, all of these formulas are used extensively throughout the entirety of both semesters.
