Course Description

Statistics play an important role in management decision making. Good decisions are based on an accurate description of the observed data. Relevant strategies rely on modeling data and estimating the parameters of the model using data. Only decisions that are motivated by appropriate statistical analysis may be convincing and broadly accepted.

The aim of this course is to introduce basic notions and methods in statistics. In this course you will learn how to describe data using sample measures and graphical tools, how to model data using notions of probability such as random variables and population measures, how to estimate model parameters using point estimates and confidence intervals, how to test hypotheses concerning model parameters using testing procedures and how to measure the relationship between two or more variables using regression analysis.

Statistical methods are introduced through a mathematical framework, combined with illustrations using Excel and applications to management data. A large set of exercises with solutions and electronic self-review tests are also provided.

Say what?

Her voice is not annoying. It's called an accent. She's French and English is her second (or perhaps, third) language. Repeat your comment in perfect French and maybe I will respect your complaint that her spoken English is not perfect.

Good work

I loved the stories about statisticians, the use of a tablet pc and interesting datasets. Self-review tests and problem sets are particularly useful to prepare for exams.
