This set of resources was created to help students and their teachers prepare for the Accuplacer test that is used by many colleges and universities to inform placement decisions, and is now available here, free of charge, to all Maine students and educators. These instructional materials parallel the six modules of the Accuplacer that students need to pass in order to qualify for college level mathematics. Accuplacer College-Ready (ACR) Instructional Materials is a fully searchable 1400 page resource that comprises a full course, providing more than enough activities and resources for a semester of instruction that develops and reinforces the mathematics needed for success on the Accuplacer test and in future math courses. The ACR program recognizes the importance of tailoring instructional experiences to address students’ identified needs. The materials are designed in a mix-and-match model, allowing teachers to select appropriate lessons, activities, and components. Each unit employs a variety of instructional approaches and includes a range of components. These components range from pre- and post assessments to selected online resources to station activities designed for hands-on, small group work. The ACR materials were developed by Walch Education with support from math educators familiar with the Accuplacer (especially teachers in MELMAC Learning Foundations College-Ready grant sites), as well as staff from the Maine International Center for Digital Learning (MICDL) and Apple Computer. This work was funded, in part, by a Davis Family Foundation grant that was awarded to MICDL. Walch Education also contributed significant time and resources. If you have questions about using the materials in your classroom, you can reach Shelly Sommer, the primary developer of the materials, at Walch Education (207-523-2518) or These materials are the property of Walch Education and are provided for free to teachers and students in Maine through a grant from the Davis Foundation. Other uses, without the express written permission of Walch, are strictly prohibited.
