Mental Candy for the Language-Lover

This man has created the greatest series I have ever encountered on languages for those without a doctorate in linguistic history!
Each talk is 5 minutes! Long enough to be interesting and informative. Short enough to be palatable by the instant-gratification-oriented minds of millenials.
He covers all of the most asked-about questions and then some.
He uses no snobby vocabulary, making his talks accessible for anyone interested. I can't recommend him enough!

Portuguese and Spanish are not the same language!

As a fluent speaker of both Spanish and Portuguese, this podcast does a great disservice in intimating that the differences are nearly insignificant. My experience is that Spanish speakers simply CANNOT understand Portuguese, the reason is because Portuguese has twelve vowel sounds and Spanish only five. The same is true of Dutch and German. Also, speakers of both languages vastly overestimate the ability to speak the other's language. Lastly, at international conferences it is more usual to see Spanish speakers listen to an English simultaneous translation of a third language than Portuguese.

His speech is easy to understand and not boring unlike other.
