Description

On the world stage, there has been a surge in the number of trading associations, economic blocs, and mutual-security organizations. It is expected that Brazil, Russia, India, and China will become the four most influential economies, and thus outstrip the current richest economies, by the middle of the twentieth-first century. With the inclusion of South Africa in 2010, the BRICS spans across four continents, creating an abundance of geopolitical clout, in addition to its potential economic dominance. What political and economic changes will the ascendance of the BRICS bring to the world? What impacts will the emergence of economic and/or political alliances have on the persistent tension between developed and developing countries? Is it opportune to re-examine the adequacy of past and current paradigms for effecting political-economic developments across the globe? Considering the potential impact of the BRICS on such areas as economics, finance, trade, investment, development, exclusion and inclusion, and international relations, this international and interdisciplinary conference aims at providing a forum for academics, policymakers, trade representatives, government officials, development banks, NGOs, business executives, trade and investment consultants, legal practitioners, and students to share research findings and practical experiences, to explore the implications of the changing landscape of the global political economy, and to draw lessons for the future
