Description

Dr. John Coe, Founder and Director of Biola's Institute for Spiritual Formation, presents an introductory study of the nature of spiritual theology and formation, which attempts to understand the nature of new life in Christ, the process of formation in the Spirit and the directives for cooperating with His work. Attention is given to the implications of Spiritual Theology for seminary training and classroom experience. Particular attention is given to understanding the implications of life in Christ regarding guilt, shame and legalism as well as the New Covenant ministry of the Spirit in transforming the heart in light of the dynamics of original sin, early relational development and the habits of sin developed over time. Attention is also given to developmental spirituality, how the Spirit transforms the heart over time and how this affects ministries of teaching, preaching and discipleship in the church.

Life Changing

I was blessed to be a participant in this class. If you have been struggling in the Christian life, lost the joy of the Christian walk, are wanting to walk more in step with the Spirit or even think you are a good boy or girl, you too will benefit from these lectures. Dr. Coe is engaging, insightful and recognized nationwide as an expert on this subject. You will find out exactly what Spiritual formation is, discover the dangers of moral formation based on our own efforts, how to embrace seasons of the soul and learn how we wrongly deal with our shame and guilt by covering, hiding and filling. Also discussed is the Dark Night of the Soul, the Sanctification Gap, how theological education has ignored spiritual transformation and many other topics. You will also be given Prayer Projects by the instructor that you can do between segments. Enjoy!
