Tyrone Davis

From his first smash single, Tyrone Davis proved that women find few words sexier than "I'm sorry" — assuming, of course, that they're delivered with T.D.'s almond-butter baritone and puppy-dog pout. From gutbucket soul to glossy disco grooves, Tyrone knew that what ladies wanted to hear was what most men were afraid to say.

While Tyrone stepped away from the Pop charts in the '70s, he never stopped landing singles on the R&B charts. A king of the chitlin' circuit, T.D. recorded songs right up to his death in 2005, which were embraced as classics. One of his last big hits, "Dogg," turned his apologetic persona on its ear, making for an ironic farewell for the Chicago soul legend.

Throughout his 40-year career, Tyrone has always had a gift for finding producers who understood his gift and allowed him to adapt to changing times without changing who he was. As a result, he had hits across four decades and filled his albums with pleading soul too good to turn down.

Though he began his career recording as the "Wonder Boy," Tyrone quickly grew into the kind of man women couldn't resist — the kind of man who knew when he did wrong and wasn't too proud to beg for his woman to come back. Over 40 years, T.D. never stopped drawing crowds of ladies…and put-out men looking for a little good advice from the master. And while he may best be remembered for "Turn Back the Hands of Time," chart-topping anthems like "Mom's Apple Pie," "In the Mood," the gorgeous "Heart Failure," and the dozens of others still resonate through the souls of the thousands of fans who packed the church when Tyrone Davis passed in 2005.
