About the Movie

Emmy and Golden Globe-winner Bruce Willis ("Sin City," "The Whole Nine Yards") stars as a Jack Mosley, a broken down NY detective assigned to escort a petty criminal (Emmy and Golden Globe-nominee Mos Def -- "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy," TV's "Something the Lord Made") from the precinct to the courthouse. The seemingly simple 16 block journey becomes a test of character when Jack's ex-partners attempt to stop them. It's the story of how two men change each other during a tense struggle between life and death. Also starring Emmy and Golden Globe-winner Alfre Woodard ("Beauty Shop," TV's "Desperate Housewives") and David Morse ("The Green Mile," "Contact").

Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: Willis and Def -- funny even if he overdoes the whiny shrieking -- are a terrific team. – Peter Travers, Rolling Stone, Nov 24, 2006

Rotten: Another urban action thriller that's better than some, worse than most and so forgettable that it's possible to forget it while watching it. – Mick LaSalle, San Francisco Chronicle, Jun 24, 2010

Fresh: 16 Blocks is the best of this trio [of recent crooked cop movies, including Dirty and Running Scared], thanks to the winning performances of its stars -- a restrained Bruce Willis and a very likable Mos Def. – Jack Mathews, New York Daily News, Jun 24, 2010

Rotten: [Richard] Donner can direct this sort of thriller in his sleep, but he squanders the movie's sense of urgency for little acting or screen-writing indulgences. – Roger Moore, Orlando Sentinel, May 13, 2009

Action packed

This movie has more twists and turns than you would expect! It will grab your attention from the beginning to the end.

great movie

The guy who gave this movie 3 stars is an idiot. This is a great action movie, mos def and bruce willis are great I strongly recomend it to anyone who likes movies.

Say it 'aint so, Donner!!!

My God, this movie f-ing BLEW! I am a big Richard Donner fan - "The Omen," "Superman," "The Goonies," "Lethal Weapon"... He's directed some of my favorite films. But this movie was so awful, it just breaks my heart. It's one giant cliche from start to finish: Bruce Willis is A COP, with a gruff, bad attitude. Mos Def is the black criminal forced to team-up with the cop, which naturally means he's gonna be the "comic relief." David Morse is the cop who (surprise surprise) ends up being a BAD cop. The script is formulaic, and the plot is riddled with holes like Swiss cheese. The whole concept doesn't make sense. Mos Def, who is a good actor and I actually like him, puts on the MOST ANNOYING voice I can imagine, and is just "the annoying, quipping, complaining stereotype of a black guy." Bruce and Mos start off the flick hating each other, but by the end (surprise surprise), THEY'VE BONDED! It's just so stupid in every way. Don't waste your money on this. Just buy "48 Hours" instead, which is what this movie is trying to rip off anyway... Jesse has spoken! I'm right, and anyone who disagrees with me is wrong!
