About the Movie
A pair of astronauts heads to Jupiter to investigate a radio signal sent from a mysterious monolith on the moon, but their tranquil trip is endangered when their on-board computer begins acting oddly. The simple plot of director Stanley Kubrick's inspired space adventure (co-scripted with noted science fiction author Arthur C. Clarke) belies the profound philosophical implications of this classic film, which inspires viewers to ask questions about the nature of advanced civilizations . . . and of human consciousness. Nearly half a century after its release, the film's groundbreaking special effects are still breathtaking, and its ending still mind-bending.

Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: Though it fails as drama, Stanley Kubrick's venture succeeds as dazzling visual art.
Fresh: 2001 will emerge from its initial long-run Cinerama engagements and subsequent extended runs as one of MGM's all-time box office hits ...
Fresh: The movie is carried by images you'll never forget: the monolith, the space stations waltzing to Johann Strauss' "The Blue Danube" and the long "Star Gate" sequence, featuring a hurricane of lights and images that were once thought trippy.
Fresh: Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey is some sort of great film, and an unforgettable endeavor. Technically and imaginatively, what he put into it is staggering.
I don't know how long I've been waiting for 2001 to make to the iTunes library. This ranks as one of the most visually beautiful fims I have ever seen (next to 300, Sin City, King Kong, Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow, and The Fall). If you enjoy any genre of film in the least bit, you MUST see this masterpiece! 6/5
You don't know what cinema is, if you didn't seen it. Greatest movie about space. And it's really psychedelic. (Sorry for wrong english - I'm from Russia)
One of the greatest films of all time
