Open iTunes to preview, buy, and download this movie.

Plot Summary

December 21, 2012: the end date of the sophisticated Long Count Calendar created by the ancient Maya in central America. Countless books and websites, magazine articles and newspaper headlines debate its meaning, with enthusiasts in two camps: those forecasting apocalypse—the end of time—and those who see a coming renewal, a rebirth of consciousness. Adding fuel to the debate, some scientists see the increasing number of natural disasters in recent years as evidence of a catastrophic climax of events in 2012. How much of what we're hearing is science and how much is superstition? In this film the leading researchers, writers and scientists in the field tell us exactly what this date means to them, why it's important, and what we should expect.

Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: Despite the frenetic action scenes, the movie sags, done in by multiple story lines that undercut one another and by the heaviness of its conceit. – Manohla Dargis, New York Times, Jun 24, 2010

Fresh: Cusack, with his one-of-the-guys face and his nice way with child actors, does creditable work as an Average American Dad trying to put things right. – Lisa Schwarzbaum, Entertainment Weekly, Sep 20, 2011

Rotten: [Nothing] will give you more respect for how difficult it is to be an actor than watching top talent like John Cusack, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Amanda Peet and Oliver Platt struggling to treat the film's ungodly language and situations with perfect seriousness. – Kenneth Turan, Los Angeles Times, Jun 24, 2010

Rotten: 2012 is so long, and its special effects are at once so outrageous and so thunderously predictable, that by the time I lurched from the theatre I felt that three years had actually passed and that the apocalypse was due any second. – Anthony Lane, New Yorker, Jun 24, 2010

Soup for the mind

The Earth is Billions of years old, every 24,000 years it crosses the Galactic equator. NOTHING HAS OR WILL HAPPEN! I read the review about how they discovered that there is a giant black hole at the center of the galaxy... wrong, Nasa nor anyone else has evidence of that, there is a theory but there are many more than just that. I will say however that Nasa has Declared 2012 a year of great Astronomical importance but only for these reasons, 1. The sun is switching magnetic poles(a date has not been estimated yet) 2. The largest Astroid to pass the Earth since the one that wiped out the Dinosaurs will pass us inbetween January and March 3. Sol(our solar system) will be entering the Galactic equator(Months before December). Also I would like to point out i believe in God, but not the Bible. For those of you that would like to know why, it is because sometime before the Byzantine empire fell, an Emperor(I can't remember his name offhandedly so you will have to look it up on your own) edited the Bible. So the conclusion of what I am trying to say, everything will be the same as it always is, Armageddon could happen anytime any day, hell, scientists say that a 10 on the richter scale would rip the Earth in two. As to the storms and violent weather getting worse, it is all because of the green house gases Humans pump into the atmosphere every year. Its only getting more and more noticeable because China is going through their Industrial revolution and is pumping almost 50x more green house gases into the air than the United States did in the early 1900s. The only thing that we will most likely experience is second ice age in the years to come. Also one more thing, those of you that believe that the world will end, please start providing scientific proof, stop using pop science and scare tactics. Getting other's to believe in what you believe changes nothing, nor is it a solution to a problem.

December 21, 2012 is when the world is going to end?!??!?!?! What a joke! Everybody just needs to calm the down. Just Chilllll. I am a Christian and God himself says in the Bible that NO ONE will know the exact date or time when the world is going to end. To God, there is NO SUCH thing as time. He will come when he wants to come and that's that. Yes, I do believe the end times of the Earth are near because the bible is pretty dang close in what it states. Things that is states are very similar to what we are going through and what we're ABOUT to go through. If you want to really know whats going on than buy a Bible and read the book of Revelations. Go to church and get saved. Beleive me. God is the way. Who knows when the world is going to end. It's in GOD'S hands. It COULD end today

We do not for sure know but something to think about

This movie will make you think. It'll make you think about what your doing now, what you should be doing and what you should do with the time you have left (if this does happen). I do not believe this is coming of jesus christ. In the bible it says christ will come like a thief in the night, you will not know when he is coming. This movie is possibly a "be prepared" kinda movie.
