About the Movie
In this timely thriller, charismatic and ruthless businessman, Rick Carver (Academy nominee Michael Shannon), is making a killing by repossessing homes - gaming the real estate market, Wall Street banks and the US government. When he evicts Dennis Nash (Golden Globe nominee Andrew Garfield), a single father trying to care for his mother (Academy Award nominee Laura Dern) and young son (newcomer Noah Lomax), Nash becomes so desperate to provide for his family that he goes to work for Carver – the very man who evicted him in the first place. Carver promises Nash a way to regain his home and earn security for his family, but slyly seduces him into a lifestyle of wealth and glamour. It is a deal-with-the-devil that comes with an increasingly high cost - on Carver’s orders, Nash must evict families from their homes. As Nash falls deeper into Carver’s web, he finds his situation grows more brutal and dangerous than he ever imagined.

Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: Bahrani's latest film, "99 Homes," an examination of the crisis in bank foreclosures and repossessed homes in the guise of a thriller, is his best yet, largely because of a dynamite performance by co-star Michael Shannon ...
Fresh: A simplistic but stirring morality play centered on the pressure point of the savings-and-loan crisis.
Fresh: The movie works as a twinned character study, a moral suspense thriller, and an indictment of an America stacked against its working classes.
Fresh: A gripping dramatic thriller about the winners and losers in America's game of mortgage roulette.
A True Epic That Is Coming On America
Great acting, scary that this is what has become of the economy. People still need A wake up call. cause the PARTY is just getting started.
I can't say enough good things about this movie, it is so great. I just watched it, and I'm just blown away by how great it is. Full of drama that most people can relate to, even if you've never owned a home. It shows both sides of the story as far as foreclosure situations go. It's the kind of movie that really makes you think about how you would feel if you were in either position. Of course, Michael Shannon is great in this (just like in every other movie he's ever done). I've always thought he was a terrific actor and he certainly delivers another fine performance in 99 Homes, one of his best to date, in my opinion. This is a fantastic movie!!
My expectations were low...but I have to say this is one of the best movies I've viewed in awhile. All actors deliver! It's palpable!!!! Wow!!
