About the Movie
Kelly is saving herself for marriage and following Christian Courtship, an alternative to dating where parents, in conjunction with God, search for their daughters' husbands. Kelly's own parents think courtship is crazy, so she enlists "spiritual parents" to find her husband. After living with her spiritual parents for seven years without finding a suitable mate, a promising suitor finally arrives on the scene. Now Kelly’s spiritual family must work together to determine if this is the one God has truly intended for her. Meanwhile, Kelly’s own parents try to convince her to return home, sure that continuing down the road of courtship will not lead to finding a spouse.
I saw this film at Tribeca Film Festival this year. It stimulates reactions and emotions, and some people maybe struggle with understanding the approach that Kelly takes to finding a partner. This is a balanced, sensitive and at times humorous look into a little known subculture within the Christian faith. The film has appeal for religious and secular people alike.
I found myself completely engaged in Kelly's story to find love. This film shows a slice of society that I didn't know existed. It was truly fascinating to watch and learn how this group views courtship. The film does an excellent job of respecting the subjects and tells their story in a very caring yet interesting way.
FUN AND FASCINATING!
This documentary is especially enjoyable because once it starts running it plays like a romantic comedy that happens to deal with real issues. Fast paced, fun, and informative, it's a great way to spend an eve. I watched it 2x.
