About the Movie
On the eve of World War I, Zurich and Vienna are the setting for a dark tale of sexual and intellectual discovery. Drawn from true-life events, A Dangerous Method takes a glimpse into the turbulent relationships between fledgling psychiatrist Carl Jung, his mentor Sigmund Freud and Sabina Spielrein, the troubled but beautiful young woman who comes between them. Into the mix comes Otto Gross, a debauched patient who is determined to push the boundaries. In this exploration of sensuality, ambition and deceit set the scene for the pivotal moment when Jung, Freud and Sabina come together and split apart, forever changing the face of modern thought.

Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: Knightley's portrayal is feral and unsettling.
Fresh: It makes for an absorbing drama and leaves the mustiness of cigars in the theatre.
Fresh: A Dangerous Method is well cast with Michael Fassbender as a pent-up Jung and Viggo Mortensen as Freud. Keira Knightley inhabits the fits and fury of Spielrein.
Rotten: The true story is extraordinary; the film is not, although the actors are all fine.
Too dull for even a psychoanalyst to enjoy!
I've studied and practiced psychoanalysis, so I was very excited when this movie came out. How often do I get to watch movies about Freud, after all? Wow, was I ever disappointed. The movie was plodding and slow. Scenes lasted forever. Kiera Knightley was ridiculously melodramatic. This movie was more intellectual than entertaining, and did not succeed in being particularly intellectual. I almost turned it off several times, but made myself plod through it just in case it got better. It didn't.
Longest 2 hrs of my life
Don't waste your time watching this insipid drivel that is nothing more than a thinly veiled attempt to sell the reputation of two prolific contributors to the field of psychology unless of course you are a chronic insomniac desperately in need of sleep. In the latter case you can be assured you will most certainly find sleep a wonderful escape from this disaster. The people who made this movie absolutely botched a wonderful opportunity to make a thought provoking film. This is yet another example of the garbage that is being produced by the film industry in a desperate attempt to remain competitve in the ever changing age of a digital society.
This was a great movie. I have read a lot of Jungs works and was aware of his relationship with Dr. Freud. I was not aware of Spielrein's involvement.
My God... it was spectacular to watch such great acting with a story right out of the history books. Freud was an atheist and Jung believed in a bigger picture of reality.
My personal feelings are with Jung. If you enjoy deeper thinking then you'll love this movie. If you're not so inclined you'll be bored to death.
