About the Movie
With A Ghost Story, acclaimed director David Lowery (Ain’t Them Bodies Saints, Pete’s Dragon) returns with a singular exploration of legacy, loss, and the essential human longing for meaning and connection. Recently deceased, a white-sheeted ghost(Academy Award-winner Casey Affleck) returns to his suburban home to console his bereft wife (Academy Award-nominee Rooney Mara), only to find that in his spectral state he has become unstuck in time, forced to watch passively as the life he knew and the woman he loves slowly slip away. Increasingly unmoored, the ghost embarks on a cosmic journey through memory and history, confronting life’s ineffable questions and the enormity of existence. An unforgettable meditation on love and grief, A Ghost Story emerges ecstatic and surreal—a wholly-unique experience that lingers long after the credits roll.

Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: A meditation on loss but also on legacy - on our enduring need to endure.
Fresh: "A Ghost Story" is an oddly haunting, wholly original trip.
Fresh: This is a film not so much about spooks as about deadly loss and the disorientation it brings.
Fresh: Completely unlike anything else you'll see this year.
A Ghost Story
This movie is actually surprisingly amazing. This is cheesy when you look at it from far away...like...from Everest far. Up close, this is a beautiful story about life and love, with superb acting and amazing direction. Why I thought this would be like Paranormal Activity is shameful. Watch it, cry, absorb, then watch it again.
With silent yet telling performances from Casey Affleck and Rooney Mara, a chilling lead single, and a story that is truly unique; A Ghost Story shows that movies can be interesting and far from boring, even with a slow pace and a lack of dialogue. Within this small scale due to the film's low budget, it's astonishing to see director David Lowery (Ain't Them Bodies Saints) delve deep into a concept and explore it to it's fullest. While the bed sheet ghost concept may seem silly and reminiscent to the stereotypical childhood halloween attire in trailer format, it glows in the film just for the fact that it works. It's such a satisfying image that one would think it's the base idea that made the director want to explore the territory in the first place. In fact, that reminiscence relates to the themes presented in the film, especially LINGERING IDEAS, which I would argue is the main theme given that the slogan of the film is "It's All About Time." That being said, I think this film is unique, full of talent, and perfectly explores new territories while tackling familiar ideas.
Casey Affleck ❤️
Honestly, I'm pretty bias because I love anything with Casey Affleck in it. But A Ghost Story really makes you think about life and death .
