About the Movie

Jenna Fischer (TV's The Office) gives "a game-changing performance" (The New York Post) in this irresistible and offbeat award-winning comedy set in 2002. Laura, a Long Island dental hygienist, sneaks cigarettes and pounds back beers to cope with her unfaithful husband (Chris O'Donnell, Scent of a Woman), overbearing family, and a brother-in-law (Rob Benedict, Supernatural), who’s loved her since high school. Her life really spins out of control when her husband suddenly dies and her 12-year-old son (Daniel Yelsky) tells an outrageous lie at school to impress his new classmates. Laura’s going to need a little help to settle into a normal life…or a lot more beer! Academy Award-nominee Lesley Ann Warren (Victor/Victoria), Ron Leibman (Norma Rae) and Brooke Smith (Silence of the Lambs) costar in this " highly entertaining and richly human movie experience" (Box Office) from the creator of King of Queens.

Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: Though the enjoyable prickliness of the film's early scenes soon dissolves into cozy solutions, a sturdy supporting cast - even Ron Leibman's scenery-chewing turn as Laura's blowhard father is more amusing than annoying - balances the scales. – Jeannette Catsoulis, New York Times, Jul 21, 2011

Rotten: "A Little Help" settles for familiar and modest payoffs. It's not much. Yet Fischer clearly relishes the chance to play someone who's a demurely reckless mess. – Michael Phillips, Chicago Tribune, Jul 28, 2011

Rotten: It's not that Jenna Fischer is miscast in "A Little Help.'' It's that she's mis-everything else: misused, misdirected, misanthropic. – Wesley Morris, Boston Globe, Jul 28, 2011

Rotten: The actors are sincere (especially Ms. Fischer, who plays frustration well) and the direction has a complacent rhythm, but 1 hour and 48 minutes is too long for a movie in which nothing much happens. – Rex Reed, New York Observer, Jul 20, 2011

Totally worthless

The movie has absolutely no purpose. Its such a waste of time.... I wish I could get my time back! If I could give it a -10 starts I would, and the comments below really surprised me.

If I spent anymore of my time writing a review for this movie, I would only be adding on to the time this movie already wasted.
