About the Movie

Stepping from the pages of Fredrik Backman’s international best-selling novel, Ove is the quintessential grumpy old man next door, with strictly enforced principles and a short fuse. Still grieving his late wife, Ove has largely given up on life until a boisterous young family moves in next door and forces him out of his shell in this heartwarming tale that reminds us that life is sweeter when it's shared.

Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: Though our put-upon hero's gradual realization that he has much to live for is obvious from the get-go, it still is a pleasant journey from pawn to king - spiritually speaking, of course. – G. Allen Johnson, San Francisco Chronicle, Oct 12, 2016

Fresh: Lassgard won't let you off easy: A scene in which Ove weeps hopelessly before the magnitude of his loneliness will bring tears to the eyes of anyone who has suffered a loss. – Peter Keough, Boston Globe, Oct 13, 2016

Fresh: The moving twists and turns of the love story and the bright comedy elevate an otherwise familiar story line. The mix of genres works, too. – Stephanie Merry, Washington Post, Oct 20, 2016

Fresh: A Man Called Ove won me over - if for no other reason than Lassgard's formidable talent for playing such an utterly pitiless, nihilistic jerk. – Tirdad Derakhshani, Philadelphia Inquirer, Oct 6, 2016

A foreign film in a language ALL can understand

Writing this review through my tears....happy tears. This is just the movie the world needs to see right now. We can't do anything alone, we need eachother, we're all connected. So very well written, not once could I predict what was going to happen next. A dark comedy that somehow makes you laugh even during the situations that most would consider to be sad. The next time you run across a person like "Ove"....think twice before you judge. Even those that are hard to love, when given a chance... are the easiest to love.

It's pronounced Oh-vey

This is one of my favorite books and easily one of my favorite adaptations to date. A story of this grumpy old man, who finds himself helping others in the unlikeliest of times. Making friends and fighting the "white shirts" along the way, Ove is the man we all wish we had in our lives. Grab some tissues, there will be tears.

Beautiful

This is a really beautiful, sweet film. Like God's vision, this film allows us to see exactly why the seemingly unloveable are now, and always have been, totally lovable!
