Top Critics' Reviews
Rotten: The one person who gets the balance right, weighing parody and homage, is the composer, Joel McNeely, whose opening theme stirs hopes and memories that the movie cannot match.
Rotten: A Million Ways to Die in the West feels like about 80 minutes of material was padded out to 110 minutes.
Rotten: This movie feels like it has a million jokes, and every single one arrives with a lethal thud.
Rotten: Feels more like an extended riff than a fully fleshed-out film.
If you liked ted, you'll like this
I honestly saw this expecting a bit more. It gave me a few chuckles and a lot of smiles but the film itself could have been more. If you like Ted and family guy, you will like this. Just don't get your hopes too high up like I did. It's fun but not amazing.
I love Family Guy, and Ted was one of the funniest movies of 2012, so I had high hopes for A Million Ways to Die in the West. Unfortunately, this movie was a disappointment. Well I take that back, it wouldn’t have been disappointing if the trailer didn’t show everything. It spoiled 90% of the jokes and a specific cameo that I would’ve LOVED to have been surprised by. After about 15 minutes into the movie, I was hoping that it would get funnier… it didn’t. But although it didn’t get funnier, it did get more entertaining. In my opinion, Charlize Theron was the best part of the movie; her character was the most likable and she was pretty funny. Giovanni Ribisi and Sarah Silverman’s relationship was fun to watch too, although her character was kinda flat. Besides those three, I didn’t really care too much for the rest. Amanda Seyfried’s character was dull, there wasn’t really anything to Liam Neeson’s, Neil Patrick Harris’ was awkward to watch, and most importantly, Seth MacFarlane seemed to think his character was way more interesting than he really was. And I personally like him more as a teddy bear. Overall, this movie tried way too hard to be funny and is a major step-down from MacFarlane’s last movie Ted. I say wait until this comes out to rent instead of paying full ticket price at a theater. If you haven’t seen the trailer for this, DO NOT LOOK IT UP.
Seth Macfalane did a really great job!! i loved the movie!! Seth is a genius!!
