Sinopsis

On April 14, 1912, just before midnight, the “unsinkable” Titanic struck an iceberg. In less than three hours, it had plunged to the bottom of the sea, taking with it more than 1,500 of its 2,200 passengers. In his unforgettable rendering of Walter Lord’s book of the same name, the acclaimed British director Roy Ward Baker depicts with sensitivity, awe, and a fine sense of tragedy the ship’s last hours. Featuring remarkably restrained performances, A Night to Remember is cinema’s subtlest and best dramatization of this monumental twentieth-century catastrophe.

Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: Cold and brutal - exactly how this tale should be told. – David Jenkins, Little White Lies, 12 abr, 2012

Fresh: A restrained, nearly austere ensemble drama that manages to intertwine a dozen different stories without tripping up on any of them, it relies on real-life survivor testimony for almost every line and incident, to immensely moving and dignified effect. – Catherine Shoard, Guardian [UK], 13 abr, 2012

Fresh: Baker cuts to the chase - the iceberg strikes 30 minutes in - and maintains tension with consummate skill: not an easy task when the outcome is already known. – Tom Huddleston, Time Out, 10 abr, 2012

First of all...

You cannot rate a movie from the trailer. This movie was actually really good I loved watching it and learning about the other boat that was only like a couple miles away. And obviously it was no titanic but it was great watching it then comparing the similarities in the Titanic! So just cause it's in black and white doesn't mean it's boring!!!

A personal favorite

I purchased this movie on VHS many years ago. It has stood the test of time and honestly IMO is one of the best adaptations of the events of the Titanic. It dwells on many of the passengers, and the humanity of the event.

I enjoyed the Cameron version, and while I loved the older Rose, I hated that we were forced to follow in the flashback The younger Rose and Jack. Their story was a distraction and took away from the actual people's tragedy. Though I admit the actual ship sinking moment was very well done and gave me chills.

But back to this movie, Yes this movie is old, yes some of its recreations were in recent years proven to be wrong but the drama of the people is what this story is about! Over the duration of the movie you learn about several couples, you follow their stories what led them there, where they were planning to go, and what happens to them. You honestly feel for the older man and the child as the ship is on its final moments. You care about many of the people by the time the ending comes. Lightoller is a great character to follow and I am purchasing this again for my electronic collection.

The best Titanic movie ever!

I don't care what ANYONE says, this is better than the 1997 "Titanic". The drama is better and its WAY more historically accurate.
