A Royal Affair is the true story of an ordinary man who wins the queen’s heart and starts a revolution. Centering on the intriguing love triangle between the ever more insane Danish King Christian VII (Mikkel Boe Følsgaard), the royal physician who is a man of enlightenment and idealism Johann Struensee (Mads Mikkelsen) and the young but strong Queen Caroline Mathilde (Alicia Vikander), A Royal Affair is the gripping tale of brave idealists who risk everything in the pursuit of freedom for their people, and of the passionate and forbidden romance that changed an entire nation.

Fresh: The storytelling ... is kind of amazing.
Fresh: A Royal Affair covers plenty of stately ground, all in good time.
Fresh: "A Royal Affair" is an engaging and entertaining film, one that might have been great, if only the history were different.
Fresh: A crowned-heads soap opera that balances effectively between pomp and melodramatic circumstance.
This movie really brought you into what it was really like in the royal courts, it wasn't every girls fantasy were the king and queen fall in love, or the servant meets the lonely queen were they run off into the sunset and have many kids; this was a true story about the hardships of prearranged marriage, a mad king and a Enlightenment physician, the people of Denmark and dangerous love. It made me cry and feel for the people. I loved it.
A beautifully exquisite film. The greatest since "Elizabeth". Possibly even better. I am stunned at the incredible cast, the screenwriting, the cinematography... A true masterpiece!!
I really liked the actors interpretation, the story is well developed and personally i don't like long movies, but this one keeps you at your seat! enjoy!!
