About the Movie

Inspired by true events, this charming romantic comedy recounts the glorious celebration of the end of World War II in Europe — and the extraordinary evening when young Princess Elizabeth (Sarah Gadon) and her sister, Princess Margaret (Bel Powley), take to the streets of London for a whirlwind adventure filled with excitement, danger...and the flutters of first love.

Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: What makes "A Royal Night Out" palatable are the lead performances. – Stephen Holden, New York Times, Dec 3, 2015

Fresh: Jarrold is best known for the feel-good Anglophile fantasies Kinky Boots and Becoming Jane, and A Royal Night Out is a genteel, succinct venture in the same vein. – Abby Garnett, Village Voice, Dec 1, 2015

Fresh: A Royal Night Out is a film of enormous charm, texture and good will, thanks largely to the three leads. – Rex Reed, New York Observer, Dec 10, 2015

Rotten: Unless viewers are aficionados of the old royal family, I'm not sure how interested they'll be in following two posh-accented young women chasing through drunken crowds in period dress, though Powley, in particular, is a charmer. – Sara Stewart, New York Post, Dec 3, 2015

Loved it!

Worth watching it! I loved watching this movie, I could replay it a million times, you won't regret watching it

Hilarious!

I haven’t laughed so hard at a movie in years. Bel Powley is a comic GENIUS! I saw it five days ago and I’m still laughing at some of her lines and the way she delivered them. Some of her funniest one-liners, however, were muttered under her breath (like Popeye), and as an American I had to rewind a few times. Well worth it. The script’s main purpose is to put the two “Windsor Sisters” in as many crazy, silly, romantic, goofy situations as possible (like the Marx Brothers), during one incredibly magical night in the history of the world. Bonus: We also get to hear “the” King’s speech from a totally different perspective.

An insight to royalty

This movie shows a truth about the different royal families. It shows how members of the royal family are practically locked up in the palace and how the search for a taste of brief freedom is reality. Sarah Gadon does an amazing job portraying a princess who wants a small taste of the life outside the palace doors. I give it 5 stars.
