Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: Ms. Fidell ... has a fine eye but not the makings of a feature-length movie here and, it quickly becomes clear, isn't interested in this relationship or the moral, ethical and legal issues it raises. – Manohla Dargis, New York Times, Sep 5, 2013

Rotten: As first features go, A Teacher demonstrates a willingness to provoke, but doesn't seem to understand the minimum expectations most audiences place on films in terms of both incident and characterization. – Peter Debruge, Variety, Jan 22, 2013

Rotten: Glimpses of the relationship's dynamics can't overcome the missing sense of how these two first connected, an increasingly problematic void at the movie's core. – Sheri Linden, Los Angeles Times, Sep 5, 2013

Rotten: Fidell seems ill-prepared to steer the film into strictly psychological territory, resulting in a project that loses its fraught sense of control at the same moment as its embattled protagonist. – Andrew Schenker, Village Voice, Sep 3, 2013

Very disappointed in this movie. It was quite a let down. We came in at the middle of the plot, not knowing how the affair began and then the movie ended without letting us viewers in on how the drama ended. Don't waste your time. OR money. So lame.

Highly recommended

Caught this at a film festival and was very impressed. Fidell takes the kind of story you'd see in a supermarket tabloid and adds a real depth to the plot and humanity to the characters. You really get in the head of the titular teacher and get a better understanding of how someone could pursue someone they know they shouldn't.

The actress who plays the teacher is amazing and the kid she has the affair with is pretty solid too. A Teacher is recommended viewing!

who are you?

Ummm The movie is well shot, good acting but what is the point? I don't know what the director is trying to tell us. There is no character development, the women jogs alot and there is some mother issue which is only very briefly hinted at. I am, left asking why is this women so f....ed up, I can't see the point so don't bother.
