Top Critics' Reviews
Rotten: A showy vehicle for producer-star Lauren Ambrose, whose emotionally volatile character comes off as unsympathetic and practically bipolar, the overly contrived, hard-to-swallow script undermines viewer compassion.
Fresh: It's a worthwhile recession-era drama built around a terrific performance.
Fresh: A sad, wrenching but admirably unsentimental film about the bravery of the human condition that truly deserves a bigger audience.
Fresh: This often feels like a European art movie in its naturalistic detail and propulsive editing, though writer-director Bryan Wizemann localizes this style with resourceful location work and sharp, idiomatic dialogue.
Compelling and emotional
About Sunny is an intense look at the relationship between a mother and her child and the struggles a single parent may have. Lauren Ambrose is amazing as always. Definitely check it out!
Saw it at Boston Indy FIlm Festival
I think it won an award at the Boston Indy Film Festival. It was one of the few films I saw there that I wanted to see again later. Definitely Lauren Ambrose's best role. It's a heart-wrenching but ultimately satisfying drama about a single mom struggling to figure out what's best for her kid. Could've been schmaltzy if not for director Wizemann's deft touch.
Intense but Worth It
This movie is a very gritty look at hard choices in a hard world. You really feel for Sunny and her mom. You care what happens to them. I definitely recommend it.
