Plot Summary

In this contemporary animated holiday musical fable, Adam Sandler gives voice to all three main characters, including the film's antagonizing protagonist Davey Stone, a young man who hates the holidays and is determined that no one else in the town of Dukesberry is going to enjoy them either. In trouble with the law for a rowdy rampage on the first night of Hanukkah, party animal Davey must spend his holidays performing community service as the assistant referee for the youth basketball league, or go to jail. He thinks he's gotten off easy until he meets Whitey Duvall, the eccentric, elf-like head referee. Between Whitey's never-ending optimism and Davey's constant troublemaking, soon both are wondering if going to jail wouldn't have been easier.

Rotten: The animation is rudimentary and imagination virtually absent. – Kirk Honeycutt, Hollywood Reporter, Jun 24, 2010

Rotten: Squanders the cross-cultural comedy potential of a Jewish-themed Christmas movie on cheap fart gags and boilerplate schmaltz. – Ed Halter, Village Voice, Jun 24, 2010

Rotten: Sets animation back 30 years, musicals back 40 years and Judaism back at least 50. – Roger Moore, Houston Chronicle, Jun 24, 2010
