Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: Apologies to Samson and Delilah, Mary and Max and Balibo: the one true great Australian film of 2009 was easily Joel Anderson's Lake Mungo, a mournful, dreamlike examination of the hole left in the heart of a family after a death. – Simon Miraudo, Quickflix, Nov 2, 2014

Fresh: And don't deny yourself the film's final creepy images - stay for the credits... – Simon Foster, sbs.com.au, Aug 9, 2010

Fresh: It's actually very nicely done, using untrained actors and the documentary form disconcertingly well to destabilise audience expectations at a number of points. Is there a ghost story? Why is the family so rattled? What's happening? – Julie Rigg, MovieTime, ABC Radio National, Jun 24, 2010

Fresh: It may be overstating it, but Anderson's command of cinematic language is right up there with Bryan Singer's audacious bag of tricks in The Usual Suspects. – Dov Kornits, FILMINK (Australia), Jun 24, 2010

flewoutofchair

yes seriously, i flew out of my chair at multiple points...
well actually i threw my headphones off and slapped my face. This movie does deliver some serious chills.

This is a beautiful and disturbing mockumentary with a wicked, fantastic soundtrack.

Kind of boooooring

I usually enjoy movies like this. However, while watching this I was waiting and waiting for something to happen and it never does. They could have done so much more with that movie. This was really boring and not at all scary. The acting itself is not bad, there is no plot or any storyline.

Really Well-done

If you're looking for gore, look elsewhere. Undoubtedly, the bad reviews on this are from the non-thinking masses. This is a really well-done piece of psychological art. You can get very sucked in to the storyline, and that's the point. The acting is excellent and in context. This movie stayed on my mind long after I finished watching it. Definitely worth the rent or purchase.
