About the Movie

Set in the winter of 2002 in chilly upstate New York, After tells the story of a middle class family struggling with the financial consequences of a failing family business and a series of intergenerational conflicts and rivalries. But, what truly threatens to upset their delicate balance - and shatter the emotionally fragile family matriarch (played by Academy Award-nominee Kathleen Quinlan) - is an intricately buried secret that, if revealed, could alter their lives irrevocably. A searing study of denial, deception, and self-delusion, After is also a powerful portrait of the lengths we go to protect those we love.

Rotten: "After" catalogs so many cliches in the dysfunctional family at its center that the film could be taught in a screenwriting class as a lesson in what not to do. – Martin Tsai, Los Angeles Times, Aug 14, 2014

Rotten: [There's] a fairly far-fetched twist that feels out of place in this realism-based drama. – Sara Stewart, New York Post, Aug 6, 2014

Rotten: Kind of irritating in is purposeful disingenuousness and determined challenges to plausibility. – Glenn Kenny, RogerEbert.com, Aug 8, 2014

AFTER

AFTER is an amazing movie. Everyone should see this film. At first I just got caught up in it. Then that night I went to bed thinking about it. Then I found myself talking to some friends about it. Then I'm at dinner and I'm thinking about it again. It's just one of those movies. I loved it.
