Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: As redesigns go, Alien: Covenant is not ambitious, but it's roaringly, repulsively effective. – Guy Lodge, Newsweek, May 26, 2017

Rotten: Yet director Ridley Scott -- who birthed the original nearly 40 years ago as well as that last film -- plunges back into the latter's mythology, with equally uninspired and perhaps more blatantly derivative results. – Brian Lowry,, May 18, 2017

Fresh: A shamelessly high-minded, Byron-and-Shelley-quoting existential inquiry into the origin of three species and the nature of belief that goes slumming in genre territory just enough to get itself greenlit. – Chris Klimek, NPR, May 18, 2017

Fresh: Peel away the big budget genre film's veneer of Western Civ for Dummies (Michelangelo, Wagner, Byron and Shelley) and what you have is rather conventional Lego blocks of sci-fi horror. – Thelma Adams, New York Observer, May 19, 2017

Not very brave formula movie that could have been.

Great effects, furthers the prequil franchise but suffers tremendously from the irrational behavior and unbelievability in the script. It leaves one to wornder if this saw a real test audience or even better the story itself was read by anyone but the production team. It is: here is your story, here are your sterotype idiots, now pay me. Could be the last one for awhile. Sad. Had been looking forward to it.

Best Alien Prequel Yet!

What can I say more? Another great Alien film from director Ridley Scott!
