About the Movie

In this sparkling romance, Ruby (Jamie Chung), a Chinese American toy designer from LA, visits Hong Kong for the first time on business. Finding herself stranded, she meets Josh (Bryan Greenberg), an American expat who shows her the city. Meandering through nighttime streets pulsing with energy and possibility, they fall into a winding and carefree conversation, buoyed by an undeniable attraction. Just as things start to look promising romantically for the pair, the night is stopped short by a surprising revelation. As effervescent as a perfect first date, this charming walk and talk romance takes full advantage of the chemistry of its leads, the playfulness of their exchanges, and the magical landscape that is Hong Kong at night.

Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: Stories don't come much thinner than the one in "Already Tomorrow in Hong Kong," a will-they-or-won't-they romance that invests a lot in the attractiveness of that city. – Neil Genzlinger, New York Times, Feb 11, 2016

Fresh: This earnest, slight romance doesn't generate enough sparks to overcome the anxiety of its obvious influence. But as a simple valentine to Hong Kong's expat nightlife, the film makes for charming, breezy viewing. – Andrew Barker, Variety, Jul 7, 2015

Fresh: A freshly contemporary change-up on the traditional cross-cultural romantic-comedy. – Michael Rechtshaffen, Los Angeles Times, Feb 11, 2016

Fresh: It's always entertaining to tag along with these attractive actors on their photogenic journey. – Stephen Farber, Hollywood Reporter, Jul 7, 2015

Great locations, poor acting

This film has great shots of Hong Kong streets and locations. As it is one of our favourite cities, this for us was great. The film itself is disappointing. It is essentially the same style as the Before sunrise/sunset/midnight movies with the big difference being the quality of the acting and the dialogue. These actors are just not in same league as Hawke and Delpy. The dialogue always feels slightly forced. You never feel things are really clicking between them and yet that is essential for the movie to work. Chung is particularly wooden. The ending is like the last failed cliche to try and make the movie work. It doesn't.

Enchanting, Engaging

I truly loved this film. I have difficulty imagining someone not finding anything in the film to enjoy. Between the locations, the chemistry between the leads, the humor, the music, and the romance, this 80 minute film breezes by like the stroll it’s characters take. Look forward to viewing it again. Highly recommend to fans of the walk-and-talk genre, and fans of film in general. Excellent debut!!
