Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: Lane is a find -- bruised, soft, dreamy, hopeful -- and the film is at its strongest exploring the erotic chemistry between her and LaBeouf.
Rotten: At nearly three hours, "American Honey" is the most indulgent movie of the year, and the one in most need of a serious trim. It makes its point early on and then keeps repeating it until the honey turns sour.
Fresh: In the hands of British writer/director Andrea Arnold, one of the most talented women making movies today, the film has a lusty primal quality that is threatening and hard to resist.
Fresh: More than the sum of its shaky-cam parts.
Not Everyone's Cup of Tea
If you like plot driven films, steer clear! American Honey is all about the ride, not the destination. Unless you've already seen it and enjoyed it, I would recommend a rent. This is not a film for everyone.
That being said, the performances, cinematography,
and story were very engaging
Epic & Nuanced! A must see...
If you know anything about independent filmmaking, this si the film of the year. Absolutlely visually stunning and stimultaing. Excellent directing & cinematography, perfect editing and scoring/soundtrack, and performances so real it's scary... Sweet and heartfelt, sad and a reminder that this world is vast and everyone has a story and this one is well worth telling. Andrea Arnold does what she does best, giving a voice to characters who would often be overlooked. ANd the use of non-actors with the few professional actors makes for a level of verisimilitude unmatched when only using professionals.... Bravo!
Movie is worth watching
Movie is worth watching but the desription given says its kids pursuing the american dream. When did the american dream ever have anything to do with cheating people, manipulation, and taking advantage of "friends" while breaking the law? We’ve come from ""Stand by Me" and "The Outsiders," all the way to "Jerry Springer" as a drama movie pretty fast. Time to move to New Zealand.
