About the Movie
A fictional film set in the alluring world of one of the most stunning scandals to rock America, American Hustle tells the story of brilliant con man Irving Rosenfeld (Christian Bale), who along with his equally cunning and seductive British partner Sydney Prosser (Amy Adams) is forced to work for a wild FBI agent Richie DiMaso (Bradley Cooper). DiMaso pushes them into a world of Jersey powerbrokers and mafia that's as dangerous as it is enchanting. Jeremy Renner is Carmine Polito, the passionate, volatile, New Jersey political operator caught between the con-artists and Feds. Irving’s unpredictable wife Rosalyn (Jennifer Lawrence) could be the one to pull the thread that brings the entire world crashing down. Like David O. Russell’s previous films (The Fighter, Silver Linings Playbook ), American Hustle defies genre, hinging on raw emotion, and life and death stakes.

Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: A sloppy, miscast, hammed up, overlong, overloud story that still sends you out of the theater on a cloud of rapture.
Fresh: It turns out that comb-overs, cleavage, cocaine and kookiness are an unbeatable combo.
Fresh: "American Hustle" may have taken its inspiration from the art of the steal, but it has a heart of pure, if slightly tarnished, gold.
Fresh: Filled with rich characters and sharp dialogue, the movie turns on questions of friendship and fidelity, both personal and political, with a knockout performance by Jennifer Lawrence as the con man's jealous, ball-busting wife.
AM I THE ONLY ONE WHO HATED THIS MOVIE ?
I usually agree with critics about 90% of the time, but I honestly don't understand why critics liked this movie so much. It's boring, tedious, unfunny, awkward and unrealistic. I'm not a fan of David O. Russell, but I did somewhat enjoy Silver Linings Playbook. So I thought this movie would be good, but in the end I honestly hated it. However Christian Bale and Amy Adams were incredible and they had the 70's look and music down on point, but the story was dull and poorly written. Don't go see this movie! Save your time and money on a better movie like Gravity or 12 Years a Slave.
Disappointed in this one. Loved the acting but plot was DULL. Went with 9 people everyone was bored.
A Much-Needed Return.
While Argo resparked an interest in the good ol' 70s (my personal favorite decade when it comes to film), David O. Russel's takes the cultural homage a step further with "American Hustle." Blending the best of two worlds (old and new), it combines the prowess of modern talent and aesthetic capabilities with a style of filmmaking that defined crime cinema of the 90s (particularly the films of Scorsese in terms of style and narrative structure). Performances are solid and lived-in; that is, if they do not quite match the high standards set by everyone with top billing (and even some surprise cameos that I dare not spoil, especially one that gangster fans will genuinely freak upon exposure!), the cinematography and music immerse viewers in the time and place, and the writing is virtually flawless.
Modern audiences may be surprised by the joys in this self-aware caper; fans of the genre, I assure you, will be in complete in utter ecstasy. AN INSTANT, F-ING CLASSIC.
