About the Movie
From BAFTA Award-winning director Asif Kapadia (SENNA), AMY tells the incredible story of six-time Grammy-winner Amy Winehouse – in her own words. Featuring extensive unseen archival footage and previously unheard tracks, this strikingly modern, moving and vital film shines a light on the world we live in, in a way that very few can. A once-in-a-generation talent, Amy Winehouse was a musician that captured the world’s attention. A pure jazz artist in the most authentic sense – she wrote and sung from the heart using her musical gifts to analyze her own problems. The combination of her raw honesty and virtuosity resulted in some of the most unique and adored songs of the modern era. But her massive success resulted in relentless and invasive media attention, which coupled with Amy’s troubled relationships and precarious lifestyle, saw her life tragically begin to unravel, resulting in her untimely death in July 2011 at the age of 27.

Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: It's Amy's words, her music, her voicemails, her home videos, her friends, her family, her tormentors, and her timeless incandescence. Look, listen and weep.
Fresh: "Amy" is a film about the waste of a great talent, and you dread the inevitable ending.
Fresh: "Amy" doesn't depart from the standard behind-the-music template, but it does deepen the format immeasurably, through the intimacy of its archival materials and the focus of its approach.
Fresh: A loving but honest portrayal of a doomed talent.
Oh Amy, Amy, Amy
You are truly missed, and such a huge part of the chapters in my life. You were with me in song, for so many years, and held me down in New York, Vegas, California, And So many other cities with your voice, and threw a break up in which we both shared such a mutual love of you =) To all reading this, know this is a truly amazing artist, soul, and the music matches with it, in a way that no other music in existence could ever do. #1 Amy!
When Amy became available on Itunes, I was really excited. I love Amy Winehouse’s music, and the reviews that were displayed in Itunes were overwhelmingly positive. But I really did not like this documentary. Very little of Amy’s music was included in the film. The film was a series of unconnected clips narrated by a random selection of people, s by people who were present, but there was no narrative tying the clips together, and after watching the film I don’t have any more insight or understanding into Amy’s talent and life story than I did before. I love a really well made documentary. This film isn’t one.
To be completely honest I hadn't listens to a ton of Amy's music but I am a fan of autobiographical and documentaries so I checked this out! This piece of art had me feeling all types of emotions!! It was so good I had to watch it twice 2 days in a row. It's a tragically beautiful film and story of her life and it made me feel saddened with her....wish the people around her could have helped her hurt instead of ignoring it!! If you haven't seen this piece please do!!! Loved it so much I def bought it!! Amy def has a true raw emotion filled voice that I can say now I def pay waaaay more attention to and love RIP angel👼🏻👼🏻👼🏻
