Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: A conventional but hugely compelling drama.
Rotten: It is full of bang-on melodramatics and simple, romanticized characters with carefully supplied motivations.
Fresh: Rarely does a film come along with so many finely-drawn characters to care about.
Fresh: An Officer and a Gentleman is the best movie about love that I've seen in a long time. Maybe that's because it's not about "love" as a Hollywood concept, but about love as growth, as learning to accept other people for who and what they are.
One of the Best
One of the most engrossing and uplifting films ever made... and a hot date movie to boot. ;-) Old-fashioned love story brought irresistably to life, thanks to top-notch performances by Gere, Winger, Keith, and Gossett, Jr. Chock-filled with memorable scenes and diologue, and an unforgettable climax that will have you crying and cheering all at once. A definite Five-Star flick. Ohhh-rah!!
Worth watching even if just for Gere
I own this movie on dvd and i find myself watching it at least once a month. just can't get enough of Gere and Winger. Great movie Great cast i really recomend buying this on itunes and/or dvd
Great movie...MADLY depressing...
...ok...so the movie is awesome. Gere, Winger, and Gosset give AMAZING performances! The story is great, great dialogue, great "ooh & ahh" moments (I.E. when he beats up the guys outside the bar), great army scenes, but also a GREAT deal of depressing scenes, dialogue, and moments. The feel of the movie, the look, the situations-DEPRESSING! But that's what makes it so great...hence why i gave it four stars.
