Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: Mr. Schiffli shoots in a fluid style, tweaking colors and focus to register changes in perception and feeling. – A.O. Scott, New York Times, May 14, 2015

Fresh: Dastmalchian and Shaw are thoroughly convincing both as vividly drawn, emotionally complex individuals, and as a couple inextricably bound by addiction and enabling. Among the well-cast supporting players, John Heard makes the most significant impact. – Joe Leydon, Variety, Mar 21, 2014

Fresh: It's gritty and grim, but "Animals" is also a gripping portrait of young junkies in love. – Gary Goldstein, Los Angeles Times, May 14, 2015

Rotten: The couple's doomed romance feels familiar from numerous other films about addiction, and the movie is downright bad whenever it aspires to visual poetry. – Ben Sachs, Chicago Reader, May 21, 2015

Such a good movie!!

This movie really surprised me. It was one of the best movies I've seen this year.

Great Acting!

The acting on display here is front and center and what I most connected to. A pretty brutal story and subject matter - yes it's somewhat depressing - and normally I need something more genre oriented to get me through, but this held it's own. Worth checking out if you like dramas or even just independent films in general. Well executed.

Hauntingly beautiful

A love story, told through the context of addiction. Jude and Bobbie are in constant search of their next fix, but you can't help but root for them, as a couple. This film humanizes the agony of addiction.
