About the Movie

Jane Hayes’s (Keri Russell, TV’s “The Americans”) adoration of all things Jane Austen is complicating her love life: no real man can compare with the brooding and handsome character Mr. Darcy. Determined to be the heroine of her own story, Jane spends her life savings on a trip to Austenland, an eccentric resort in the English countryside where guests experience complete immersion in the Regency era. Armed with her bonnet, corset and needlepoint, Jane strives to avoid spinsterhood and meets two very different gentlemen… but has a difficult time determining where fantasy ends and real life—and maybe even love—begins. Jennifer Coolidge (Legally Blonde franchise), Jane Seymour (Wedding Crashers), JJ Feild (Captain America: The First Avenger) and Bret McKenzie (TV’s “The Flight of the Conchords”) also star in this charming romantic comedy based on the bestselling novel by Shannon Hale.

Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: Everything rings false, and the spectacle of bad actors pretending to be bad actors may trouble your sleep for some time. – Anthony Lane, New Yorker, Sep 2, 2013

Rotten: Hess has made a classic rookie mistake: Any spoof has to be at least as smart as the thing it's spoofing, and this one's twice as dumb. – Ty Burr, Boston Globe, Aug 29, 2013

Rotten: "Austenland" understands Austen's enduring romantic appeal but has no use for her deeper themes of class, wealth and gender inequality. – Rafer Guzman, Newsday, Sep 12, 2013

Rotten: No matter how bleak things seem, Austen's characters always manage to find a euphoric and contagious happiness. And that kind of feeling needs to be earned. It can't be replicated with a checklist of plot points. – Stephanie Merry, Washington Post, Aug 22, 2013

Very funny movie!

I loved the whole thing! You would be crazy not to but it!

Charming and cute

Though the movie, as per usual, is slightly different from the book it still holds the essence of it and is entertaining to watch. It had me bursting out in laughter quite a bit. I saw it twice and the second time around loved it more than the first. It's as good as chick flicks come but with a story to keep the romantics within us satisfied. Kinda makes me wish a version of austenland actually existed. Oh well.
